The Opportunity
Do you want to make a difference with your career? Passionate about addressing the environmental changes impacting the globe? Be involved in a research and policy-focussed global program that will secure Antarctica’s environmental future and contribute to global environmental conservation.
Monash University is in an extraordinary position to lead an unprecedented global research program; Securing Antarctica’s Environmental Future (SAEF) within the Faculty of Science.
We have an exciting opportunity for a Research Fellow to join SAEF’s Theme 1: Climate Processes and Change, designed to answer fundamental scientific questions about the interaction between ice sheets, climate and sea level.
The primary purpose of your role is to investigate the impact of climate variability and change on regions of the East Antarctic Ice Sheet, over multiple timescales. This research will lead to an improved understanding of ice sheet processes, and insight into how and when East Antarctica might respond to climate change.
Your role will include using observational and climate model data to develop past reconstruction and future projections of climate forcing time series across East Antarctica, and applying climate forcings in numerical ice sheet models to investigate past and future change.
The successful candidate will have a doctoral qualification in a relevant discipline (ice sheet or climate modelling, glaciology, or climate science), with a strong track record of carrying out independent research leading to peer-reviewed research publications and emerging evidence of contributions to competitive research grants. You should have demonstrated experience in modelling of ice sheets and their dynamics and/or the ability to process and analyse climate models or large climate datasets.
If this sounds like it suits your current career focus we look forward to hearing from you and seeing your application!
This role is a full-time position; however, part time and flexible working arrangements may be negotiated.
At Monash University, we are committed to being a Child Safe organisation. Some positions at the University will require the incumbent to hold a valid Working with Children Check.
Your application must address the selection criteria. Please refer to "How to apply for Monash Jobs".
