Job Description Summary
The Computational Social Science Lab is a new organization for the research initiatives of Duncan Watts, a PIK Professor affiliated with Wharton, SEAS, and Annenberg. The Lab's goal is to bridge among the three aforementioned schools research, teaching, and practice in the rapidly emerging field of computational social science (CSS), and to establish Penn as a global leader and standard setter in CSS.

Reporting to the Lab's Executive Director, the Research Coordinator supports the Lab's relationships with key external stakeholders: researchers involved in the Lab's large-scale studies, study participants, data partners, the emerging community of Computational Social Scientists and its institutions, civic organizations. The position's responsibilities include:

 

 

 

  • Recruit and onboard researchers in the Lab's Research Network
  • Recruit, train, and manage a panel of subjects of experimental research using automated tools, analytics, and machine learning algorithms
  • Liaison with CSS partners such as International Society for CSS and Summer Institute in CSS
  • Prepare, monitor, and enforce collaborative research and data agreements. Organize meetings with data partners and follow up on the ToDo lists from such meetings
  • Coordinate the planning and scheduling of workshops, seminars, and other events
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

    Qualifications

    Required

    Bachelor's Degree with 1-2 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience

    Experience building relationships with internal and external constituents in a large organization

    Good interpersonal communication skills to foster collaboration and teamwork among researchers and external providers of data and research-related services

    Good organizational skills and an ability to manage multiple tasks with diverse audiences and varying deadlines

    Working knowledge of at least one object-oriented language, Python or R

    Preferred:
    • Familiarity with academic research in computational social science
