Chair of Department of Engineering Technologies, Tenured at Associate or Full Professor

<p><strong><u>The Department</u></strong>: The Department of Engineering Technologies has Bachelor of Science programs in Aviation Studies [ATMAE accredited], Electronics and Computer Engineering Technology [ABET accredited], Mechatronics Engineering Technology, Engineering Technology [ABET accredited] and online in Quality Systems. The department has a Master of Technology Management program with specializations in Engineering Technology and Quality Systems that is online. The department is also involved at the doctoral level in an online consortium Ph.D. program with Indiana State University. The degree of Ph.D. in Technology Management is granted by Indiana State University and the department participates in the Digital Communications, Manufacturing Systems, and Quality Systems specializations within that program.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>Some of the current initiatives in the department include:</p> <ul> <li>An internal grant is expected to replace and upgrade many of the laboratory areas within our larger laboratory that involve both the electronics and computer engineering technology and the engineering technology programs. The central theme of this grant is Information Technology Infused Advanced Manufacturing. This grant is under discussion and focuses on the following areas: Mechanical Design; Rapid Prototyping and Additive Manufacturing; Automation, Mechatronics and Robotics; Fluid Mechanics for Robotics; Mechatronics; Advanced Manufacturing; Materials and Manufacturing; Data Highways, Networks and Security (Cybersecurity); Green Energy; and Virtual Reality in Advanced Manufacturing.</li> <li>The Quality Systems program is delivered 100% on-line via BGSU eCampus format.&nbsp; Growth is predicted with the move to the BGSU eCampus format in 2016. A plan to pursue ABET accreditation will be developed.</li> <li>The Aviation Studies Program is pursuing AABI Accreditation (2018) and has major curriculum and check sheet revisions in process. One of the fastest growing programs at BGSU, the Aviation program is uniquely situated to address the educational and personnel requirements of the 21st century aviation community, and the flight concentration is supported by the partnership with North Star Aviation.&nbsp; Areas of emphasis include airline and airport management, aviation engineering technology, flight operations and the developing unmanned aerial vehicle community.</li> <li>A Robotics lab to support the Mechatronics Engineering Technology Program has recently been installed.&nbsp; The lab is fully functional and classes begin Spring 2017 semester.&nbsp; A search for an additional full-time faculty member to support the Mechatronics program is currently in progress.&nbsp;</li> </ul> <p><strong><u>General Description and Responsibilities: </u></strong>This is a tenured position in an academic environment undergoing significant change. Responsibilities associated with this position include working with faculty and others to collaboratively:</p> <ul> <li>Lead in the areas of program and curriculum development, student recruitment, budget, personnel, innovative instruction, and facility utilization.</li> <li>Lead in developing and encouraging research projects and related agendas connected to scholarship and attracting external funding.</li> <li>Represent and advocate with related industries and organizations, advisory committees, government agencies, potential funding sources, other departments and institutions, and university administration to build collaboration and cooperation.</li> <li>Teach at least one credit-bearing course per semester in a discipline offered in the department. <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong><u>Required Qualifications</u></strong><strong>:&nbsp; </strong></p> </li> </ul> <ul> <li>An earned doctoral degree in a department related field.</li> <li>Exemplary teaching, research and service credentials appropriate to the rank of associate or full professor with tenure.</li> </ul> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong><u>Preferred Qualifications:&nbsp; </u></strong></p> <ul> <li>Professional experience in a department related field.&nbsp;</li> <li>Proven record of scholarship, research, and development.</li> <li>Proven record of leadership and administrative skills.</li> <li>Experience with budget management.</li> <li>Experience in working effectively with diverse groups and disciplines.</li> <li>Academic administrative experience.</li> <li>Experience with ABET or AABI or other related accreditation.</li> </ul> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong><u>Rank and Salary</u></strong>: Salary is competitive and commensurate with peer institution levels for rank and position and in keeping with the candidate&rsquo;s experience and credentials. This is a twelve-month renewable faculty position.&nbsp; Alternatively, a nine-month renewable faculty position, with additional summer contract is negotiable.
