President

Widener University invites applications, expressions of interest, and nominations of candidates in its search for the university’s 11th president. The search was launched in response to President Julie E. Wollman’s announcement that she will retire from the presidency at the end of the 2021-2022 academic year. Dr. Wollman is a transformative leader who has had a tremendous impact on Widener and our mission.

Since its founding in 1821, Widener has undergone multiple transformations to become a selective, nationally ranked, doctoral university. Today, Widener offers bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral, and certificate programs to approximately 6,500 students across three campuses and online. Widener University’s main campus in the City of Chester is located just off I-95 and is only twenty minutes from Philadelphia, the nation’s sixth-largest city and home to world-class art, culture, sports, entertainment, and history.

With its urban location, thoughtful blend of in-demand academic programs, and fast-moving yet collegial culture, Widener is well-positioned for the future. Our next president will build upon our proud legacy of success—for the benefit of our curious and ambitious students and for the betterment of the world they will go on to lead.

Building on a bold vision and significant institutional momentum, Widener launched a transformative strategic initiative in 2019—to think about the future of everything the University does and to reimagine student support services to meet the demands of a radically shifting world. Using innovative scenario planning, the university’s most creative and open-minded thinkers developed a suite of forward-thinking strategic narratives to ensure the university remains both proactive and poised to respond with agility to emerging changes.

Widener seeks an entrepreneurial yet collaborative leader with a passion for excellence and innovation in higher education as its next president.
