Job Description Summary
University of Pennsylvania Career Services, positioned within the division of University Life, is seeking an Associate Director to advise undergraduates students and alumni of The College of Arts and Sciences, through one through one-on-one and group settings, regarding all facets of career planning and employment-related activities as well as professional development.
Career Services offers a wonderful opportunity to be at the nexus of Penn students, alumni, employers, and campus partners, and provides an engaging environment to apply your skills in effective communication, relationship building, program/event managing and leadership/supervision.
The Associate Director, Career Services advises students and alumni from the College of Arts and Sciences Undergraduate Division on career planning and employment-related activities, works directly with employers interested in hiring Penn students, and participates in the collection and management of data and computer applications necessary to support these efforts. Plans and develops programs and resources to encourage broad usage of Career Services, including for specific affinity groups (e.g. first generation/low income students and students of color) and industry communities. Receives administrative supervision and reports to the Senior Associate Director for the College of Arts and Sciences team in Career Services.
- The Associate Director will advise College of Arts and Sciences undergraduates and alumni regarding all facets of career planning and employment-related activities as well as professional development, through individual career advising appointments, mock interviews and same-day advising hours
- Create dynamic, actionable workshops, speaker panels, programs, and events (virtual and in- person) and present to student organizations and in classrooms
- Keep updated on relevant career news, resources, and tools and develop content for website and blog to communicate effectively to students
- Manage the planning and coordination of at least one career fair annually
- Evaluate applications to fund unfunded and underfunded summer opportunities for Penn students
in all school as part of Summer Funding committee
- May interview, hire and oversee Wharton MBA Graduate Assistant
- Support the recruitment and training of Peer Career Advisor Program
- Establish effective relationships with recruiters, hiring managers and alumni with potential for hiring College of Arts and Sciences undergraduate students and alumni
- Collaborate closely and serve on interoffice and internal office committees with administrators across the University, student services and student organizations on program planning and implementation
- Actively participate in the collection and outreach of summer and post-graduate outcomes data
- Develop effective communication approaches targeting College of Arts and Sciences undergraduate population, distributing content as relevant through various channels including social media and the Career Services website
- Represent the office at professional meetings and participate in continued professional development
A Master's degree and 2-3 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Motivation to work in a student service role as part of a positive, high, energy multi-team office is needed. Interest in developing ideas and creating innovative programming reflecting the changing needs of students/graduates. Demonstrated advising skills, with ability to understand a diverse range of student and alumni needs and concerns. Outstanding presentation and writing skills across different formats and tailored for different audiences. Proven initiative in program planning and implementation, communication and teamwork. Quick learner with ability to assimilate and retain large volumes of information on career fields. Eagerness to learn and apply new technologies and tools, and a comfort with learning by doing. Strong command of technology resources, including career exploration platforms and tools, in addition to MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel. Collaborative nature with a willingness to work within and across teams internally and partner with colleagues within College of Arts and Sciences and across campus. Evidence of prior employer relations, relationship development and networking skills. Experienced in successfully managing multiple priorities. Demonstrated flexibility in adapting to new systems and responsibilities. Positive, can-do attitude and outlook and sense of humor a plus!
