Director, Health Professions Advising

The Office of Health Professions Advising (HPA) supports Northwestern’s undergraduate students and alumni on their unique journeys toward a career in the health professions, provides guidance on their options and choices, and contributes to building a health workforce that better reflects the diversity of our society. Through a combination of individual and group activities and services, HPA helps these students explore career options and understand the larger context in which they will be working.

As Director, your leadership of HPA will include the following key areas: (a) educate students and academic advisers on the breadth of careers in the health professions, (b) provide programming and outreach that is inclusive of a diverse student body, (c) build on and expand HPA’s collaboration with internal and external partners to provide students with experiential opportunities and mentorship.

The Director leads a team of four advisors and one program manager who serve over 1,200 students per year. The ideal candidate will bring to the job a combination of strong management skills, experience in program planning and evaluation, a solid understanding of the most common health careers pathways, and a deep commitment to implementing work practices that foster equity, diversity, and inclusion. The Director will bring to the unit a collaborative spirit that will easily tap into the many assets the University can offer its students, as well as their own personal and professional networks in the health sector.
