Job Description Summary
University of Pennsylvania Career Services, positioned within the division of University Life, is seeking an Associate Director to advise students and alumni from the School of Nursing, Graduate School of Education, and School of Social Policy and Practice, through one-on-one and group settings, regarding all facets of career planning and employment-related activities as well as professional development.
Career Services offers a wonderful opportunity to be at the nexus of Penn students, alumni, employers, and campus partners, and provides an engaging environment to apply your skills in effective communication, relationship building, program/event managing and leadership/supervision.
The Associate Director, Nursing, Education, Social Policy & Practice will be a regular, salaried, part-time staff member working 20 hours per week. The Associate Director advises students and alumni from the School of Nursing, Graduate School of Education, and School of Social Policy and Practice, on career planning and employment-related activities, works directly with employers interested in hiring Penn students. The Associate Director will receive administrative supervision from and report to the Senior Associate Director, Nursing, Education, Social Policy & Practice.
- Advise students and alumni of the School of Nursing, Graduate School of Education, and School of Social Policy and Practice, through 1-on-1 appointments, group sessions, and during weekday drop-ins.
- Create dynamic, actionable workshops, speaker panels, programs, and events (online and in-person), and present at department orientations, to student groups and in classrooms.
- Keep up to date on career-relevant news, resources, websites, and tools, and develop content for website and blog to communicate this effectively to students and alumni.
- Establish effective relationships with recruiters, hiring managers, and alumni at employers with interest in hiring Penn talent.
- Collaborate closely with campus administrators and student services on program planning and implementation.
- Represent the office at professional meetings and participate in continued professional development.
A Master's Degree or more and 2-3 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Motivation to work in a student service role as part of a positive, high energy, multi-team office. A desire to create innovative programming reflecting the changing needs of students and the world of work. Demonstrated advising skills with a diverse range of students, with the ability to support students and alumni who are applying to a variety of careers. Outstanding presentation and writing skills in different formats and for different audiences. Proven ability in taking the initiative in program planning and implementation, communication and teamwork. Quick learner, with ability to assimilate and retain large volumes of information on career fields. Knowledge of specific fields often pursued by graduates on the School of Nursing, the Graduate School of Education, and the School of Social Policy and Practice is a plus including knowledge of career opportunities in teaching, educational leadership, policy, research, human services, and nursing. Quick learner, with ability to assimilate and retain large volumes of information on career fields. Eagerness to learn and apply new technologies and tools, and a comfort with learning by doing. Collaborative nature with a willingness to work within and across teams. Demonstrated relationship building and networking skills.
