General Summary of Position:

The Department of Biomedical and Nutritional Sciences located in the Zuckerberg College of Health Sciences at the University of Massachusetts Lowell, is committed to academic excellence and diversity among the faculty, staff, and students and seeks a full-time tenure-track faculty member with expertise in and research interests in biomedical sciences. All faculty are expected to teach and engage in service to the department, College and university. The ideal candidate should have a successful publication record and demonstrate potential for extramural funding to support their research programs. The successful candidate will be appointed at the assistant/associate professor level based on their qualifications.

The department is interested in attracting candidates with interests in interdisciplinary and translational research in infectious disease and immunology. In particular, we are interested in candidates with expertise in molecular microbiology, the gut microbiome/mucosal immunity or bioinformatics. Candidates with interests in developing innovative biosensing and point-of-care technologies applied to these areas of research are also encouraged to apply. The successful candidate is expected to develop an independent basic or translational research program that will ideally bridge with multiple programs and centers at the College and university, including pharmaceutical and nutritional sciences, public health, and applied biomedical sciences and engineering. As the preeminent research and academic institution within the greater Merrimack Valley, the University of Massachusetts Lowell and its Department of Biomedical and Nutritional Sciences are also invested in improving the health and wellbeing of our communities.

The successful candidate will be engaged in the education of undergraduate and graduate students. Previous experience in teaching is desirable for Assistant Professor candidates and required for Associate Professor candidates. We seek applicants recognized for excellence in research and teaching, ability to work with diverse populations, and excellent oral and written communication skills. Emphasis will be placed on individuals with experience working in interdisciplinary teams and with the potential to foster additional interdisciplinary collaborations with Research Centers and across the 5-campus UMass system, as well as with the VA.

The Zuckerberg College of Health Sciences is dynamic and expanding, and prepares professionals and scientists in a wide range of health science fields including applied, clinical and translational areas. The college offers baccalaureate, masters and doctoral programs in several health related disciplines including applied biomedical sciences, pharmaceutical and nutritional sciences, nursing, public health, physical therapy. A large research program and vibrant community partnerships and engagement opportunities enrich and support our educational programs.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

• A doctoral degree in biomedical science or other related health sciences field
• Postdoctoral research experience is required for Assistant Professor candidates
• Record of research and publication
• Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) 
• Assistant professor candidates must have a vibrant research program with strong likelihood of funding and continued scholarly dissemination.
• Associate professor candidates must have a nationally recognized research program with a record of current extramural research support

Additional Considerations:

• Discipline-specific teaching experience preferred
• Experience in fostering interdisciplinary research initiatives desirable
