PRESIDENT

The Lake Forest College Presidential Search Committee invites applications, expressions of interest, and nominations of candidates in its search for the College’s next President. The search was launched in response to President Stephen Schutt’s decision to retire in June 2022, following a celebrated 20-year tenure. In his successor, Lake Forest College is committed to finding a leader who will build on the institution’s traditions and values, forge strong connections with the community, and help to shape the College’s bright future.

Lake Forest College, a liberal arts college with a total enrollment of 1,647 students (1,622 undergraduate and 25 graduate) in fall 2021, sits on 107 wooded acres, one-half mile from Lake Michigan and 30 miles north of Chicago.  The College offers a variety of distinctive programs in both the liberal arts and professional areas of study, including 43 majors, 50 minors, 15 accelerated programs and affiliations, three pre-professional programs, and two graduate programs.  The College is recognized on a national level for being #3 for “Social Mobility,” #21 for “Best Value College,” and #36 for “Most Innovative Schools” by U.S. News & World Report 2022 and in the top 20 for “Best Schools for Internships” according to the Princeton Review 2022.

Lake Forest College seeks a President who brings vision and leadership to preparing the College to meet the challenges of higher education today and into the future. Embracing the strong community environment at the College, the next President will be a transparent and collaborative communicator who thrives in a student-centered culture that values shared governance. Adept at working with multiple constituencies, the next President will be a strong relationship builder, a seasoned fundraiser, an advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion, and a caring partner to the campus and surrounding community. Working closely and collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, trustees, alumni, and members of the community, the next President will embrace the following priorities, among others: building the College’s financial resources and endowment; demonstrating visionary leadership and ambitious strategic planning; updating the College’s campus infrastructure; supporting and retaining a diverse student body, faculty, and staff; and advancing the College’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
