Tenure-Track Faculty Position

Position: The College of Engineering at Wayne State University is pleased to invite applications for a tenure-track position in Electrical and Computer Engineering.  We expect to make the appointment at the Assistant Professor level, but will consider exceptional senior-level candidates with a strong track record of major external funding and peer-reviewed publications. This position is a 9 month academic year appointment with a start date of August 15, 2017. Salary and rank for the position will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Responsibilities: The ideal candidate must have the ability to: (a) develop and maintain a productive research program, including external funding; (b) supervise the thesis and dissertation research of graduate students; (c) teach undergraduate and graduate courses in electrical engineering (average teaching load is 3 courses a year); and (d) contribute to college and university service activities.

Qualifications: We seek to hire an exceptional scholar in one or more of the following areas: analog and digital integrated circuits, RF and microwave circuits, VLSI, energy harvesting and power management, self-powered wearable devices, Systems on Chip (SoC), biochips, Internet of Things (IoT), computer systems, computer architecture, and hardware security platforms. Applicants must have earned a doctorate by August 2017, show evidence of sustained peer-reviewed publications, have experience or strong interest in teaching and mentoring students, and have a strong commitment to scholarly collaboration with faculty within the department, college, and university.

Preferred qualifications: Applicants whose research interests are synergistic with other faculty within the department and college are particularly appealing. The successful candidate is expected to develop a strong funded collaborative research program to enhance our existing programs. The applicants for this position must have a Ph.D. degree in Electrical & Computer Engineering or related areas with established records of research excellence, preferably with teaching experience and multidisciplinary research activity. Applicants with industrial experience are encouraged to apply.

The ECE department at Wayne State University: The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Wayne State University has 22 tenured or tenure-track faculty members, with research strengths in Computer Engineering, MEMS and Nanotechnology, Photonic and Sensing Devices, Control, Robotics, Power Systems, and Signal Processing. Research productivity is high, including five NSF CAREER awardees, four IEEE fellows, and an annual external funding of about $2.5 million. The department has approximately 60 Ph.D. students, 200 Master’s students, and 300 undergraduate students. Wayne State University is a Carnegie Research Intensive University, with approximately $245 million in annual research expenditures, and nearly 28,000 students, including 7,000 graduate and professional students.
