Job Description Summary
The Financial Analyst position works with the FMPA team to develop budgets and forecasts, serves as a liaison to assigned budget units, and provides analytical support across a variety of areas.

Job Description

The Office of Financial Management Planning and Analysis provides leadership in the School of Arts & Sciences in the areas of financial planning, analysis and controllership; additionally, FMPA provides financial operations support to the Dean's Office. Responsibilities include budgeting, forecasting, multi-year and strategic planning, financial modeling, variance analysis, and reporting.

DUTIES:

Reporting to the Director, the Financial Analyst's primary responsibilities are to: (1) Execute the original budget and fall forecast processes, which includes preparing templates, instructions, meeting materials, data entry, reconciling, documenting the approval of budget requests, etc, for assigned RBO's and adhering to set deadlines; (2) Serve as a liaison to the Regional Business Offices; (3) Ongoing variance analysis and tracking; (4) Provide support to the Assistant Director with business operations functions; (5) Participate in quarterly forecasts, the 5-year budget, year-end close, and other ad-hoc and strategic planning analyses as instructed by the Director. The ideal candidate has the ability to use discretion in working with highly sensitive data, to produce under pressure in a deadline-driven environment, thrives in a team setting, and can demonstrate flexibility as demands/assignments can change rapidly. Sense of humor preferred!

QUALIFICATIONS:

A Bachelor's degree is required (concentration in Liberal Arts preferred). An advanced degree in finance, public policy/administration or management is preferred. A passion to learn about and be involved in higher education is a must! The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three years of financial analysis experience or training (or an equivalent of education and experience), and will have excellent critical thinking, be highly analytical and detail-oriented, demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills, and should enjoy working both independently and as part of a team.

The person must be comfortable with spreadsheet and database applications; experience with BEN Financials, Business Objects, SRS, Pennant, Workday, and Hyperion Planning at the University of Pennsylvania is helpful, but not required.
