The School of Education is seeking candidates for Site Tutor roles.

The New Jersey Tutoring Corps is seeking to hire Tutors to work with scholars at a variety of sites across the state. Tutors will work with small groups of scholars, typically in groups of 1-5, in grades K-5 in building skills in Math and Literacy.

Each group of Tutors will be overseen by a Site Coordinator and will ultimately report to the Executive Director of the New Jersey Tutoring Corps.

The tutoring program will run from January 24, 2022 through May 20, 2022. 

There will be two weeks of paid training, one in December and one in January; Site Coordinators will select times to attend various training sessions, which will be held at various times to allow for maximum flexibility.

Main Responsibilities:

• Engage with scholars in grades K-5 to build on existing skills in mathematics and, possibly, literacy
• Complete daily records on scholar progress and site needs using tools provided
• Communicate regularly with Site Coordinator, senior staff, and on-site staff to provide optimum learning experiences for scholars
• Use an asset-based approach in working with scholars
• Work collaboratively with other Tutors and site staff

Required Qualifications: 

• Experience in working with young children, preferably in a learning and teaching capacity
• New Jersey Certification of Criminal History (fingerprint form)
• Complete training on elementary ELA and Math curriculum
• Experience with Google suite functions including Google sheets and forms
• Professional skills including attention to detail, timely and proactive communication and job preparedness

Employer Qualifications:

• Final offer of employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a background check and employment authorization verification.
• All persons living, coming to campus (including vendors and visitors) or an extension of the campus (e.g., off-site classes), or participating in college-sponsored programs (e.g., internships, student teaching, clinical placements, travel, community engagement activities) must complete a daily self-checkup to monitor their health and possible exposure to the coronavirus on the days they are on campus.
• All persons, regardless of vaccination status, are required to wear a mask while working indoors.

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Some classroom or teaching experience, e.g. as a pre-service teacher candidate, para-professional, substitute teacher, teacher, community educator
• Genuine desire to work with young children in a teaching capacity; building on foundational skills and closing learning gaps using formative and summative data and strong teaching pedagogy
• Reliable transportation to travel to sites

Hours

This is an after-school program, with hours typically between 3:00 pm and 6:00 pm. The number of days per week will depend on the site and the availability of the tutor. However, our goal is for each scholar to experience three hours of tutoring per week, with the same tutor. A tutor must be able to commit to a minimum of 6 hours per week with a maximum of 15 hours per week.

Compensation

Tutors will be compensated at the rate of $20 per hour.  This includes travel time to and from the work site with a maximum payment for 15 hrs/week. Payment will be made every two weeks.
