Position Focus:
Reporting to the Director of Foundational Technologies Service, the Solution Architect will work closely with fellow architects, technical managers, technical leads, system administrators, developers and clients as we build a service-oriented team supporting the infrastructure needs of one of the world's great universities.

The Solutions Architect will operate in a complex and diverse campus architectural landscape and will be accountable for providing enterprise architecture support including defining and documenting infrastructure architectural details, business and technology drivers and solution options (with TCO, ROI and roadmap alignment). The individual will be responsible for applications architecture, infrastructure architecture including Active Directory administration, and cloud technologies (Azure, , AWS, GCP including Office 365).

The candidate will have demonstrated success in developing architecture strategies and be able to make short-term decisions in the context of the long-term technology direction. The Solutions Architect is responsible for the development and ongoing maintenance/support of providing technical expertise and architectural solutions in infrastructure, hardware, hosting services, and DevOps/Fullstack areas.

Primary Responsibilities Include:

Architecting solutions for complete infrastructure (Hosted In-house, Azure, AWS, etc.) design, systems analysis, security, data center operations, & DevOps.

Acts as expert for Platform and Systems Administration teams in the plan, design, and delivery of IT solutions; responsible for impact analysis and design modifications to existing systems to support new solutions.

Participates in proof of concepts to assist in defining technology direction and enabling business strategy; present to various audience levels.

Communicates and validates program architecture with Foundational Technology teams, project management team, and technology services management team.

Design and develop Application blueprints for the implementation of new solutions (App, Web, DB, and Middleware).

Essential Duties
1. Partners with functional team(s) to define, translate business strategies into technical visions and assists in operationalizing. 2. Develops a deep level of understanding of business processes supported by the defined set of applications, leverages (where appropriate) unused capabilities of current applications, considers consolidation opportunities and presents options for new technology solutions in support of business needs and/or processes. 3. Utilizes knowledge of business process/function and associated needs to propose/provide opportunities to increase functional effectiveness and recommends appropriate technology solutions. 4. Leverages technology solutions to improve end user experience and drives customer satisfaction. Evaluates current systems and propose opportunities to consolidate where appropriate. 5. Collaborates with functional teams to develop plans that guide the business to a future state model through the creation and execution of a business strategy roadmap using technology as an accelerator. Develops and aligns strategic objectives with and around tactical demands. 6. Develops and maintains relationships with business & IT leaders, developers, architects and other stakeholders as required to define and plan integrated solutions as well as for operational support. 7. Performs research on relevant technology trends, technical tools and platforms, and emerging/evolving vendor software. 8. May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience
Bachelor's Degree in a related field and ten years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Skill/Ability 1:
Proven experience with DevOps methodology, Cloud Architecture (Azure, AWS and GCP), Windows and Linux concepts, Domains, Active Directory Architect and Security and its concepts, and the interaction between hardware, operating systems, network, data center, and application software (Three-tier architecture).

Required Skill/Ability 2:
Strong working knowledge of some of the following: VMware or other virtual platforms such as (Cisco UCS), Python, SQL, DevOps tools; puppet, chef, terraform, Jenkins, ELK.

Required Skill/Ability 3:
Strong leadership skills and excellent interpersonal skills in areas such as teamwork, facilitation and negotiation. Ability to operate in a fast-paced, evolving environment and appropriately prioritize tasks, and keep abreast of the latest technology.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:
Cloud architecture certification, Microsoft certification, architecture certifications. ITIL experience with Change, Incident, & Problem management.
