Job Description Summary
The Computational Memory Lab at the University of Pennsylvania (memory.psych.upenn.edu) seeks to hire a Research Project Manager C to help lead a multi-center study of brain stimulation aimed at improving human memory and understanding its neural basis.

Our research, funded by multiple federal grants under The BRAIN Initiative, uses intracranial brain recordings in neurosurgical patients to uncover the neural mechanisms of human memory and to develop algorithms that use electrical stimulation to restore memory function in patients with brain injury or neurological disease. Prior published work from our team has demonstrated meaningful improvements in memory using machine-learning-based closed loop brain stimulation. These projects are funded by multiple grants and involve multi-site collaborations across the U.S. and in Germany. We seek an experienced candidate who can effectively direct large research projects, has the ability to interface effectively with neurosurgeons, neurologists and engineers, and has the technical skills to work with sophisticated data acquisition and brain stimulation systems. The selected applicant will directly oversee a team of research specialists and coordinate the data collection and analysis efforts of researchers at multiple sites. Additional duties will include ensuring the longevity of the work by helping to prepare grant applications and reports, and contributing to the selection of future research agendas. The position is contingent upon funding.

Job Description

Duties:
Coordinate project deliverables and milestones across participating organizations through regular communication with project leadership and lead investigators at other sites. Oversees all aspects of projects, sets deadlines, assigns responsibilities, summarizes progress.

Manage, train, and coordinate a team of research specialists to perform data collection and post-processing duties. Participate in testing of brain stimulation protocols in a clinical setting.

Prepare clinical and pre-clinical regulatory submissions to Institutional Review Boards. Coordinate data safety monitoring meetings and reporting. Manage regulatory documentation.

Organize and leads team meetings, develop meeting summaries.

Develop technical documentation for specialized equipment through close collaboration with the systems development team and vendors. Provide guidance to research system development efforts.

Prepare progress reports to funding agencies through the development of original content and integrating contributions from scientific staff and subcontractors.

Qualifications:

Required:

An advanced degree (PhD, DSc, etc.) in neuroscience, biomedical engineering, biophysics, or related field.

3-5 years of research experience, preferably in the space of cognition, brain and behavior.

Strong technical skills working with electronics, hardware, and software.

Experience with coordinating team-based research.

Experience with scientific/statistical computing techniques and languages (Python/SciPy, MATLAB, R, or similar).

Strong oral and written communication skills.

Willingness to travel to clinical sites for research coordination.

Preferred:

Experience with grant progress report preparation and proposal writing.

Experience with regulatory affairs: IRB protocol submission and continuing reviews.

Experience with clinical and/or research electrophysiology systems.

Neuroscience/neuroanatomy background knowledge.

Experience with neuroimaging techniques (MRI, CT).

Experience using UNIX/Linux systems, including high performance computing.
