Job Description Summary
Reporting to Wharton's Director of Social Media, this Social Media Specialist is responsible for the development and distribution of social media content related to Wharton scholarship, faculty thought leadership, and knowledge dissemination. This includes management of the social media channels (LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, etc.) for Knowledge@Wharton - the School's online business journal - and Wharton Executive Education, promoting business insights and educational programming to an audience of more than 300,000 followers.

The Social Media Specialist will work in partnership with colleagues in Marketing & Communications and Executive Education, along with faculty, to elevate the impact of Wharton's scholarship on key target audiences (industry professionals, prospective students, alumni, etc.) as well as the general public.

Job Description

Functions of the position include:

 

 

  • Develop and implement organic social strategy for Wharton Executive Education that aligns with program's overarching goals while engaging with and attracting participants and organizational partners
  • Collaborate with the Executive Education marketing and delivery teams to capture the program experience, create associated content, and assist in management of partners
  • Translate and promote Wharton faculty research/thought leadership through digestible social media content, working hand-in-hand with web and creative teams
  • Develop and maintain relationships with faculty and staff to identify research storytelling opportunities on owned and earned channels, working closely with the MarComm Media Relations faculty liaison
  • Monitor, analyze and report on social media performance, aligning organic efforts with paid efforts and overall business/strategic goals
  • Lead social media listening and community management efforts, tracking audience sentiment and handling audience engagement
  • Collaborate with Wharton School Press (book publishing arm) and Wharton Business Daily (SiriusXM radio show) on multimedia content creation and distribution to boost sales and listenership
  • Support faculty with establishing and/or developing their personal social media presences, facilitating cross-promotion of content on their platforms
  • Support Institutional Events created and managed by Wharton Marketing and Communications, including but not limited to: Four Wharton Graduation Ceremonies on the East Coast; One Graduation Ceremony on the West Coast, MBA Convocation, etc.

 


Required Qualifications

 

 

  • Bachelor's degree and 3-5 years of work experience in digital or social media, marketing, communications, public relations or journalism, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent writing skills; proven ability to represent a brand on social media
  • Expertise in a wide range of social media platforms, including LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter and Facebook, as well as social media analytics tools
  • Strong news judgement and ability to originate social media content ideas and tailor them to each platform
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with various stakeholders
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines
  • Proactive self-starter who can work both independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to handle delicate situations with grace and diplomacy
  • Ability to maintain confidence
  • Ability to build relationships across the school and university, and work with a diverse group of people

 


Preferred Qualifications:

 

 

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Media or similar field
  • Deep knowledge of/interest in business topics such as finance, entrepreneurship, management, marketing, data analytics, public policy and social impact
  • Experience in education or research communications and/or with high-profile corporate brand(s), particularly working with faculty, academics or executives
  • Expertise in social media content creation, including graphic design, photography and/or video editing
  • Experience with paid social media advertising, including knowledge of LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter ads manager platforms as well as Google Analytics
