Job Description Summary
The Wildlife Veterinary Liaison will serve as a liaison between the Pennsylvania Game Commission and the Wildlife Futures Program at Penn Vet. The successful candidate will gain a comprehensive understanding of both Wildlife Futures and Game Commission operations, priorities, and needs and clearly communicate those findings between institutions to establish trust and unify efforts. The successful candidate will establish regular meetings and communications to build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external partners and stakeholders. The successful candidate will assist communications staff and other personnel with the development of strategy and content for information and educational outreach activities, such as press releases, interviews, and informational documents; facilitate the publication of case reports or research findings in peer-reviewed journals; and contributing content for articles in the Game News and other popular press magazines. This veterinarian will work with Wildlife Futures and Game Commission personnel, particularly the state wildlife veterinarian, to identify, prioritize, take ownership of, and complete wildlife health activities to fulfill objectives outlined in the strategic plans of both programs. This full-time position will be embedded within the Bureau of Wildlife Management and will report to Game Commission Headquarters in Harrisburg, PA.

Job Description

Responsibilities include:

 

 

  • Work directly with Wildlife Futures and Game Commission personnel, particularly the state wildlife veterinarian, to identify, prioritize, take ownership of, and complete wildlife health activities to fulfil objectives outlined in the strategic plans of both institutions
  • Establish regular meetings and communications between the Pennsylvania Game Commission, the Pennsylvania Wildlife Futures Program at Penn Vet, and other partners/stakeholders.
  • Provide veterinary services to Pennsylvania Game Commission in concert with the state wildlife veterinarian on wildlife research projects (e.g., wildlife captures, translocations, health surveillance)
  • Develop strategies and contribute content for information and educational outreach activities, such as press releases, interviews, and informational documents
  • Represent the Wildlife Futures Program (WFP) at invited talks and local, state, and national meetings as appropriate
  • Facilitate the publication of Wildlife Futures and Game Commission case reports and research in peer-reviewed journals and contribute content for articles in Game News or other popular press magazines
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

 


Qualifications:

A veterinary degree and proven leadership, communication (written and verbal), and network building experience are required. A history of hands-on veterinary work with wildlife is preferred. Candidates should have excellent mission-oriented communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills, and the motivation and initiative to work both independently and in a variety of team settings. Preference will be given to candidates with state wildlife agency experience and/or wildlife veterinary clinical experience with the ability to fully support any Game Commission wildlife health activity. A valid driver's license is required.
