The Associate Director of Design, Construction, and Infrastructure in Penn Engineering is responsible for designing and managing new construction and renovation projects from conceptual design, cost analysis, design development, construction, through post-occupancy.

Job Description

The Associate Director of Design, Construction, and Infrastructure will project manage, design and review construction documentation for projects ranging from $5,000 through $25M capital projects. Projects include dry, damp, and wet laboratories, MEP/FP infrastructure engineering projects in SEAS buildings. Maintain project budgets and project schedules. Coordinate value engineering efforts and contingency plans. Attend project meetings around scope planning, design development, construction estimates, scheduling and budgeting. Conduct review and coordinate project team members review of construction documents, submittals, and RFIs.

Work closely with faculty, students and staff to accomplish SEAS overall project requirements, research necessities, schedule requirements and departmental requests. Provide full engagement to solve problems. Build trust with end-user by listening, identifying best methods of communication to assure understanding, consensus and set expectations for successful results and long-term client-relationship.

Draft plans in Autocad to present options to users. Aid in maintaining current AutoCAD building plans and SEAS space database. Work directly with the project team to specify and design systems and laboratories focusing on longevity, long-range goals for the school's programming, and sustainability.

Work on LEED Commercial Interiors Silver and Gold project applications and submissions to the US Green Building Council. Ensure projects within SEAS to follow similar guidelines of LEED Silver certifications regarding product specification, practices and management.

Coordinate internal regulations for The University. Guide projects with Penn's Environmental Health and Radiation Safety team. Ensure projects meet ADA guidelines, city regulations and Fire and Building codes. Attend construction site visits to verify compliance of University requirements. Coordinate equipment and user moves, FFE, punch lists, and post occupancy scope. Coordinate small projects with internal O+M staff, tradesmen, installers, and movers.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree, preferably in interior design or architecture with a minimum of five - seven years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Proficient in AutoCAD, Photoshop, Microsoft Office, Zoom, and 3D modeling software

Preferred:

LEED AP Certification, PMP or business training
