Job Description Summary
The Senior Financial Analyst, reporting to the Director of Financial Operations in the Division of Recreation and Intercollegiate Athletics (DRIA), is responsible for a broad array of business and financial functions, including performing complex financial analyses, monitoring budgets, financial transactions, cash flow, and serving as a point of contact with university partners. As a member of the DRIA finance team, the Senior Financial Analyst will be responsible for submitting various NCAA and Federal reports including an annual GAAP financial submission in accordance with NCAA guidelines; working with external and internal auditors to adhere to annual agreed-upon procedures; and managing annual budget, five-year plan, and quarterly forecast processes, incorporating strategic initiatives, economic trends and operational effectiveness.
This position is responsible for providing high-level analytical support and development of financial models and scenarios as a key input for strategic planning decisions. In addition, the Senior Financial Analyst will provide leadership, guidance, and support to staff members through effective goal setting, performance management, and professional development.

Job Description

Responsibilities:

 

 

  • Work with department/unit heads to establish budget goals and five-year plans, ensure budgeted goals are met, oversee forecast revisions, and provide clear communication to department/unit heads. This includes preparation of budget reports for executive leadership, understanding and communicating potential risks or opportunities, and recommending improvements to the budget and forecast process.
  • Responsible for completion and submission of the annual NCAA GAAP report, annual federal Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act (EADA) submission, and various other NCAA reports. Work with external and internal auditors to adhere to annual agreed-upon procedures.
  • Provide financial analysis for relevant issues that could impact the Division and manage the Division's reporting to support business needs. Create ad-hoc reports to analyze financial information and develop recommendations.
  • Monitor transactions and report financial results for purchase orders, travel reimbursements, p-cards, journal entries, tax calculations, payroll related transactions, and other payment forms including inter-university transfers.
  • Manage Division deliverables, liaison with other university departments for business related transactions, provide leadership, guidance, and support to staff members through effective goal setting, performance management, and professional development. Attend campus meetings and trainings to keep abreast of new information regarding financial processes.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

 


Qualifications:

A Bachelor's Degree and 3 to 5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Degree in Business, Public Administration, Finance or Accounting preferred. CPA preferred. Experience with budget development and analysis or accounting, within an academic or non-profit environment is required.

Proficient knowledge of Excel is required, particularly proven ability to create spreadsheets, manage, and analyze data using pivot tables, charts, and graphs is required. Working knowledge of Hyperion, Smart View, and Workday preferred. The candidate must have thorough knowledge of financial, budgetary, and procurement procedures.

Must have experience in problem solving, independently determining method for completion of new projects, and be able to work through tasks concurrently.
