The School of Arts, Culture and Society at Messiah University currently has an opening for the position of Managing Director, International Business Institute/Assistant/Associate Professor of International Business.


The International Business Institute (IBI), is a collaborative venture of 15 Christian colleges and universities in the U.S.  Owned and managed by Messiah University, IBI runs an 8 week study-travel program involving Europe, the Middle East and Asia each summer.  Over 30 business students earn 12 credits as they travel to thirteen countries taking classes and visiting major corporations and cultural/historical sites.  Students take classes in global marketing, global business strategy, comparative economic systems and international economics.  Corporate visits, including engagement with Fortune Global 2000 companies, are an integral part of the program as well as the ECB in Frankfurt, and the WTO in Geneva.  With a nearly 50 year history, IBI has developed many excellent contacts and relationships. Responsibilities: This full-time, faculty position is responsible for the overall operation of the Institute. With the assistance of an administrative assistant, the Director: plans the itinerary for the program and secures all travel arrangements, facilities, and corporate visits working with outside organizations, resource persons and in-country contacts; recruits and selects students for the program; develops the annual budget for the program and maintains financial records; works with the affiliate schools to ensure the academic integrity of the program; promotes the program; reports to and consults with the appropriate offices at Messiah University; oversees the four IBI academic course offerings; travels as necessary to publicize the program and support those schools providing students on a regular basis; maintains ongoing relationships with corporations that are visited and develops additional corporate and organizational visits as needed; searches for and develops in-country guest speakers for the program; maintains an IBI alumni database and network for purposes of fundraising and alumni networking; provides on-site management of the IBI program and staff in Europe and Asia; advises Messiah University’s International Business majors; teaches three 3-credit courses per year; develops and oversees the extra-curricular activities of the International Business majors; and contributes to the Department of Business and Messiah University through institutional service.


Qualifications: A doctorate in a business-related field is preferred, however an MBA or Master’s in a business field may be acceptable. Business experience and international experience are required. The Director will be eligible for term-tenure and promotion through the faculty ranks. Candidates eligible for Assistant Professor will be preferred; beginning Associate Professors will be considered.


Skills and Characteristics: Ability to plan and implement experiences with student travel; excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, ability to develop and work within a budget, and must be able to travel with students for 8 continuous weeks each summer.
