Job Description Summary
Reporting to the Sr Project Leader for Public Computing, this position will provide advanced technical support for various student services, focusing especially on student printing and public workstation
management. This will include triage, escalation, investigation and resolution of issues; in addition, there will be projects to lead to improve/update systems and services. These must be completed with minimal disruption to availability and user experience.

Job Description

This individual will, in a professional manner, provide a high level of technical expertise in diagnosing and resolving problems with workstation hardware, software, network services, etc., acting as an escalation point for more complex or technically advanced issues. Activities will also include developing and maintaining scripts for task automation using PowerShell, Python, or similar scripting tools.

As a technical expert this person will be engaged in updating and/or building new systems in a cloud environment (AWS, Azure, or similar environment), following a "Systems as Code" model. They will assist in support and maintenance of servers and infrastructure shared across Client Technology Services (e.g., antivirus, storage, networking, etc.). This may mean participating in a regular on-call rotation schedule which may require evening or weekend work time in order to address critical issues/outages.

This individual must be forward-looking in order to further the team's operational and strategic goals. They will be able to identify key areas for improvement, initiate projects to address those needs, and be able to engage the appropriate resources, both within and outside of the Public Computing team. Over time they will work closely with other Wharton Computing and University level teams (special interest groups, the Super User Group, and project teams) to evaluate and introduce new tooling and automation where appropriate. This will involve fostering professional relationships across teams and departments, communicating effectively to diverse groups, and reporting regularly on complex activities.

Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of experience is required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Individual must have: proven advanced troubleshooting abilities, strong organizational and communication skills, and a drive to provide the highest level of customer service. Applicants must have: the ability to work independently, to collaborate/communicate effectively in a team, or to take a leadership role when required; the ability to work well under conditions of stress and rapid change; the ability to work extended hours, including occasional nights and weekends for on-call or project requirements; and must be physically able to lift and carry 50 lbs.

Applicants are expected to have prior experience administering Windows server and Windows 10 client products. They must be familiar with software package deployment, print management (Pharos print experience is a significant plus), Microsoft AD/LDAP, Group Policy, DFS/Windows share permissions, and imaging/endpoint management solutions (MDT and Desktop Central strongly preferred). Also necessary are a firm grasp of: networking basics (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, etc.), security fundamentals and best practices, and DevOps/"System as Code" concepts. This position will involve creating/maintaining scripts for automation of routine tasks, so familiarity with PowerShell, Python or similar scripting tools is paramount.

Candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas will be strongly preferred: technology support in a higher-ed environment; managing servers/storage/workstations as code in a cloud environment (AWS and Azure in particular); familiarity with SAN/NAS solutions; experience with SQL 2008 or later; familiarity with Ansible or MS DSC; experience with multimedia devices and software; familiarity with version control systems (Git preferred). ITIL and project management experience are also desirable.
