Job Description

Kitchen Mgr. will be responsible for operations & student programming for the Venture Lab Food Innovation Lab. This position will supervise the Food Innovation Lab Test kitchen during hours of operation, including direct supervision and hand-on instruction for students using the space. Kitchen Mgr will ensure compliance with all safety & sanitation regulations, maintain equipment, be responsible for ordering and inventory within budget restraints, and be the point of contact for the Health Dept. Wharton Operations, and Tangen Hall Staff for matters related to the Food Innovation Lab. Training of student workers and a part-time Kitchen Assistant may also be required. This position will work with Venture Lab program staff to develop and execute programming for students, focused on F&B product development & business launch, food innovation, sustainability, and other topics to be determined. The Kitchen Manager will work with program staff and leverage existing relationships to identify guest speakers, presenters and mentors for students and will coordinate and execute on events related to the Food Innovation Lab.

-Experience providing career support/education and/or professional development education in the F&B industry required

-Ability to manage budget, track inventory, place orders, maintain equipment, and train students required

-Strong leadership, motivational, presentation, and people skills required

-Ability to interact effectively with diverse group of students and build relationships across the organization required

-Current Servsafe Manager Certification or ability to get certification required

-Ability to occasionally work weekend and outside 9am-5pm schedule, as needed required

-Ability to lit up to 50 lbs and to spend significant time standing/walking required

-Ability to educate students on multiple facets of developing f&b businesses, both packaged f&b products and restaurants from concept development to launch, or ability to leverage existing relationships to provide education,

preferred

-Proven work experience as a Kitchen Manager, Head Chef or similar role,

preferred

-Demonstrated project management skills, preferred

-Current Servsafe Instructor/Proctor Certification, preferred

-Knowledge of the Philadelphia and national food and beverage industry, and relationships in the industry, preferred

-Knowledge and interest in topics such as sustainability, ethics in the food industry, preferred
