Assistant Director for Communication

This position is responsible for supporting the communication and marketing efforts of Enrollment Management, coordinating and executing recruitment and yield efforts on behalf of colleges, schools, and departments. Under the direction of the Associate Director for Communication in Undergraduate Admissions, the position supports the ongoing development and management of a mixed-media, data-driven targeted recruitment communication plan for multiple constituencies, including prospective students, parents/guardians, school counselors, volunteers, other influencers, and the university community at large. Manages the development and execution of enrollment communication for an assigned set of academic, administrative, and other partners. The position researches, conceptualizes, and creates communication plans for prospective undergraduate students, special sub-populations, visit programs (invitations, speeches, agendas, etc.), and influencers. While the incumbent does not manage a travel territory, this position actively supports enrollment staff in communicating with a wide variety of constituents, including traditional and non-traditional prospective students and their families, secondary school and postsecondary institution personnel, community-based organizations, and other individuals or organizations involved in the college enrollment process. 

1.        Enrollment Communication Planning and Execution
 

Under the direction of the Associate Director for Communication in Enrollment Marketing, plan, develop, manage, and execute an integrated and comprehensive communication plan using varying media, including but not limited to e-mail, SMS, print, web, and social media for prospective undergraduate students, parents, counselors, and other targeted audiences at all stages of the recruitment, admission, and yield process. Recommend recruitment and yield communication policies and procedures. 

Develop, write, and manage printed and electronic campaigns, documents, queries, and reports to execute strategic communication for prospective undergraduate students, parents/guardians, counselors, and other targeted audiences at all stages of the recruitment, admission, and yield process. Research, conceptualize, and write recruitment and yield communication materials. In most cases, coordinate with University Communications and Marketing and/or Printing Resources for design, layout, and production of the materials. Edit materials at the pre-production proof stage. Research and evaluate current methods and trends in printed and electronic communication and marketing, especially as they relate to enrollment management or targeted audiences. Assist the Associate Director for Communication on the development of quality assurance of all department communications. 
 

Direct the development, including design, production, and printing, of promotional and marketing materials for Enrollment Management event programming in conjunction with staff members responsible for respective programs 


Develop, edit and maintain content for official enrollment communication. This could include letters of admission and communication associated with the official application process, application forms, and pertinent sections of the Undergraduate Catalog.
 

Assist in writing strategic and recruitment communication plans for Enrollment Management. Provide public information support to the Associate Director by composing articles, press releases, and speeches when necessary. 
 

Develop and maintain mechanisms of internal communication for sharing enrollment information with key academic and student support stakeholders within the campus community. 
 

Review and edit work of others to ensure consistency, accuracy, and alignment with University’s and departments’ communication and marketing standards. 


May supervise student employees, temporary staff, or freelance contractors. 

2.        Enrollment Communication Partner Management
 

Manages the development and implementation of enrollment communication for an assigned set of academic, administrative, or other partners. In collaboration with UCM communication specialists, faculty, deans, assistant deans, and university staff, develop enrollment communication strategies. Advise academic and support units regarding recruiting efforts and communication strategies, ensuring high-quality, targeted, consistent efforts that link individual department needs and goals with the overall mission and goals of the University.
 

Prepare and maintain regular reporting to academic unit and student services clients on prospect, inquiry, applicant, and admit pool recruitment and yield communications.
 

Counsel and provide recommendations to other communication staff and academic unit personnel on best practices and procedures as they pertain to mass marketing and electronic communication, in addition to ensuring compliance with associated regulations and policies.
 

Represent Enrollment Management on university public relations and communication committees/forums.

3.        Division Support
 

This position does not represent a recruitment territory but may be called upon to provide support and to represent the University at events both on- and off-campus. 


Counsel and advise internal and external constituents on a range of enrollment processes. Maintain thorough knowledge of trends in the field of enrollment, and advise constituents on the breadth and depth of opportunities available at OHIO.
