The Division of Cardiovascular Medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine Abboud Cardiovascular Research Center at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics is recruiting a full-time scientist for a position as an Associate for a one-year appointment.  Candidates must have a PhD or equivalent and Requires demonstrated ability to develop an extramurally funded research program and requires eligibility to obtain federally funded research grants.

The successful candidate will have had hands-on experience in the cardiovascular animal physiology, in particular in studying cardiac function using hemodynamic pressure volume loop catheters, echocardiography, electrocardiography, animal colonies maintenance, animal handling and drug injections (IP, IM, SC), neonatal adult cardiomyocyte isolation, and postmortem collection of tissue samples. Candidates must also be experienced in studying mechanisms of proteostasis, microtubule organization, and posttranscriptional gene regulation in cardiomyocytes and specifically adept at the following molecular biology and physiological techniques: cardiac catheterization in mice/rats and advanced bioinformatic analyses for RNA sequencing data using command line programming and high performance computing.

Moreover, experience with Western blots, DNA and RNA extraction and processing, PCR, cell/tissue transfection, cell/tissue transduction with adenoviruses, plasmid preparation, immunoprecipitation and immunohistochemistry is desired. The applicant must be well published in high impact journals and be capable of successfully and independently writing grant applications.
