he Division of Otolaryngology in the Department of Surgery (https://medschool.ucsd.edu/som/surgery/divisions/Otolaryngology/pages/default.aspx) at University of California, San Diego is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body and is actively seeking candidates with a strong commitment to teaching, and program development for the position of Research Scientist in Otolaryngology.

Candidates will be committed to multidisciplinary investigation with a mission to develop a comprehensive program of translational research related to dysphagia related to head and neck cancer. Candidates will also have a commitment to building an independent research program, obtaining independent funding, providing mentoring/training, performing university and community service, and fostering an equitable and diverse scholarly environment. Program development will enhance and support an existing and highly developed community of basic, translational, and clinical investigators within the Gleiberman Head and Neck Cancer Center at UC San Diego. The successful candidate will lead a research program focused on the biology, etiology, and treatment of dysphagia, including but not limited to research on dysphagia related to head and neck cancer and treatment sequelae from head and neck cancer. If appropriate, there are opportunities to engage with our partner programs including the San Diego State University/University of California San Diego Joint Ph.D. Program in Language and Communicative Disorders and San Diego State University's clinical training program in Speech Language Pathology

This is a full-time Research Scientist position for candidates with clear potential for, or demonstration of, a successful research program with extramural funding and functioning as an independent investigator. This position includes participation in graduate student, medical student and resident research projects, teaching and collaboration with existing research faculty.

The appropriate series and appointment at the Assistant, Associate of Full Professor level will be based on the candidate's qualifications and experience.

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and based on the University of California pay scales. Appointments may require candidates to be self-funded. As a member of the Health Sciences Compensation Plan, the appointee should be aware that there are limitations on outside professional activities and clinical moonlighting is expressly prohibited. Qualifications Basic qualifications (required at time of application)


Candidates must have an postdoctoral or equivalent degree in health related fields and experience.

Preferred qualifications


Candidates with an extensive record of investigation in head and neck cancer related dysphagia are preferred. Candidates with a related clinical practice in dysphagia, including clinical speech language pathology, are also preferred.
