Job Description:

The College of Wooster is seeking a Director of Multicultural Affairs/Associate Dean of Students. The College has a long tradition and commitment to social justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion. The Director of Multicultural Student Affairs will actively promote the antiracist and inclusive values of The College of Wooster as a member of the Division of Student Affairs and the Center for Diversity and Inclusion, as well as collaborate, with the Office of the Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer (CDEIO), and other diversity initiatives across the College. The Director within the DSA and the CDI creates and manages programming primarily focused on BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Color) students, as well as first-generation limited-income (FGLI) students, thereby collaborating to ensure that they thrive at the College and that they move successfully from matriculation to graduation. The director in this position primarily serves Black/African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian American, Hispanic/Latinx, Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander students, as well as other racially and/or historically underrepresented populations, and their intersections, including FGLI students. This position also is primarily responsible for working collaboratively with the CDEIO staff, as needed, on antiracist/antibias programming for student-serving groups and organizations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

 

  • Serve as a member of the DSA team and as a leader within the CDI, working actively and purposefully with the other CDI directors and staff, the Division of Student Affairs, and campus partners to build unity and intersectional collaboration among the directors, staff, and areas of interest/responsibility.
  • Lead efforts to promote the persistence and graduation related to BIPOC and FGLI students through programming and through direct mentoring and support.
  • Support the Dean of Students Office and collaborate directly with the CDEIO, especially in but not limited to retention efforts for BIPOC and FGLI students and in antiracist initiatives.
  • Coordinate, support and attend off-campus opportunities for students related to diversity and inclusion.
  • Connects with students who are experiencing concerns and/or crises and serves as consistent case manager to assist student in resolving concerns.
  • Supervise the MSA Program Assistant as well as the work of student interns and assist in directing the work of CDI student assistants.

 

 


Requirements:

Education and Experience:

 

 

  • Master's degree in Education, Student Affairs, or related field required.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in advising and mentoring BIPOC/FGLI and other underrepresented students preferred.
  • Experience with programming related to diversity, equity and inclusion preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 

 

  • Knowledge of and/or experience in higher education, especially in residential colleges, and of the relationship between the academic and co-curricular programs at a liberal arts institution is required.
  • Demonstrated experience centering access, equity, inclusion, and social justice in student services and programs is preferred.
  • Must have strong time management skills and the ability to manage complex tasks while balancing competing priorities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite preferred.
  • Knowledge of a second language, such as Mandarin, Hindi, or Spanish, is preferred.

 

 


Additional Information:

The successful candidate can start remotely as long as the College is working in that mode but must be willing to relocate to the Wooster, Cleveland, or Columbus area as soon as the College resumes full in-person operations.
