Dean, Leo J. Meehan School of Business

Dean, Leo J. Meehan School of Business
Stonehill College
Easton, Massachusetts

Stonehill College seeks a dynamic, entrepreneurial, and collaborative leader to serve as Dean of the Leo J. Meehan School of Business (Meehan). Founded by the Congregation of Holy  Cross in 1948, Stonehill is a private Catholic college committed to mutually enriching discourse between intellectual inquiry and a life of faith. Stonehill fulfills its mission “to educate the whole person so that each Stonehill graduate thinks, acts and leads with courage toward the creation of a more just and compassionate world.”

The Meehan School was created in 2017 with a gift from alumnus and Stonehill Board of Trustees member Leo J. Meehan, CEO of W.B. Mason. In addition to naming the School of Business, the Meehan gift led to the construction of a new building for the School, which opened in 2019. The Meehan School employs 31 full-time faculty and 30 adjunct faculty. The School is organized into three departments – Business Administration (encompassing accounting, finance, international business, management, marketing, and sports management), Economics, and Healthcare Administration – and offers Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, and Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degrees as well as two graduate degrees – an MPS in Data Analytics and an MA in Integrated Marketing Communication. The curriculum integrates an undergraduate business education with experiential learning, leadership opportunities, and a rigorous program in the liberal arts. The Meehan School enrolls about 750 undergraduate students, totaling 30% of Stonehill’s undergraduate population, and 30 graduate students. The Meehan School’s Business Administration programs are accredited by AACSB, and the Healthcare Administration Program is certified by the Association of University Programs in Health Administration.

Reporting to the Provost, the Dean serves as the Meehan School’s chief academic and administrative officer, accountable for the quality of the School’s academic programs and faculty and for aligning the priorities of the School with those of Stonehill College. The Dean will be an advocate for the Meehan School’s disciplines, programs, employees, and students, and for the development of an overarching vision that will pull these components into an integrated whole. The Dean is expected to provide visionary leadership to align with the College’s strategic plan. The Dean is required to support the School’s three departments in their recruitment and retention of committed faculty and excellent staff, enhance undergraduates’ educational experience, strengthen graduate programs, and elevate scholarly activity. The Dean is expected to establish and maintain a transparent, collegial work climate, cooperatively leading the School towards improved productivity, relevance, and innovation.  The Dean must also demonstrate an ongoing commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion among students, faculty, and staff.

Stonehill seeks a Dean who combines exemplary academic achievements with strategic leadership ability, outstanding interpersonal and communication skills; entrepreneurial spirit and high energy; and passion for leading a School whose mission is to educate and engage students and businesses in a collaborative community and prepare students to be successful. The Dean will demonstrate a broad understanding of the direction of business education, the ability to articulate and implement a vision, and the skills to successfully manage change.  The successful candidate will possess an advanced degree with a Ph.D. preferred; scholarly or professional accomplishments of a level that merit full-time faculty status in the Meehan School; at least five years of demonstrated managerial and leadership experience, including at least three years at the Chair, Director, Dean, or equivalent leadership level; demonstrated commitment to the mission of a business school within a liberal arts college; a working knowledge of accreditation processes and oversight responsibilities; demonstrated success in external relations and community engagement; the ability to work effectively within a diverse and multicultural environment; and entrepreneurial and innovative skills in identifying emerging opportunities.

Screening will begin immediately and continue until an appointment is made. Nominations, inquiries, and applications (including a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and names of five references) should be directed electronically to StonehillBusinessDean@divsearch.com
