President

Institute for Higher Education Policy

Washington, D.C.

The Institute for Higher Education Policy (IHEP) invites nominations and applications for the position of president. This is an exciting opportunity for an innovative and inspiring thought leader to advance one of the nation’s most prominent and trusted independent providers of higher education research, policy, and advocacy. Reporting to an 11-member board of directors and leading a staff of 19 with a $5 million budget, the president will work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to develop and implement strategies for IHEP to further extend its impact at the federal, state, system, and institutional levels.

Established in 1993, IHEP is a nonpartisan nonprofit research and advocacy organization that promotes access and success in higher education for all students with a focus on students of color, students from low-income backgrounds, and other historically marginalized populations. Driven by its commitment to equity, IHEP explores postsecondary policies and practices and proposes solutions to persistent challenges that keep many underserved students from reaching their full educational potential. Through its research and advocacy work, IHEP seeks to shape higher education through in-depth analyses, exploration of equity-centric issues, and targeted communication and strategies designed to influence public sentiment and higher education leader and policymaker action.

IHEP seeks a visionary president who has a demonstrated commitment to the role of higher education as a vehicle for social impact, an essential component of racial equity, and a core feature of civil society. This next president will promote and advance IHEP as a trusted source of data and analysis and lead the organization’s strategic planning efforts as it approaches its 30th anniversary. The successful candidate must be able to work with a diverse group of stakeholders and talented staff and have the capacity to create and nurture effective partnerships and alliances. This individual will also have experience fostering an inclusive and collaborative organizational culture.
