The Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases has an outstanding opportunity for an infectious diseases physician to serve as the Hospital Epidemiologist for the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, an 811-bed academic medical center. This position is 75% administrative and 25% clinical, with appointment in the clinical track in the Carver College of Medicine (Assistant/Associate/Full Professor).

The Hospital Epidemiologist oversees a team of 9 infection preventionists, collaborates with the Associate Hospital Epidemiologists and the Antimicrobial Stewardship Team, and reports to the Chief Quality Officer.

An MD degree or equivalent is required as are advanced training in hospital epidemiology and experience as a hospital epidemiologist is required, as are board-eligibility/certification in infectious diseases, excellent communication skills, and eligibility for medical licensure in Iowa. There is no expectation for external funding.  Opportunities to collaborate in research are ample given the presence of 8 other hospital epidemiologists, several of whom are experienced investigators with externally funded research programs. There are also opportunities to work with trainees at all levels, including ID/hospital epidemiology fellows and MPH or PhD candidates from the University of Iowa College of Public Health.
