Provost and Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs

East Carolina University (ECU) seeks a proven leader to serve as the chief architect of the academic enterprise in the role of Provost and Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs (SVCAA). An anchor and economic driver of eastern North Carolina, the University committed to advancing the region through educating its citizens, transforming health, conducting research, and meeting critical needs of business and industry. The Provost and SVCAA is the principal academic officer of the Institution and second in overall authority. As a key member of the senior leadership team, this individual will be an important advisor and confidant to the Chancellor and charged with the delivery of a contemporary and innovative academic vision for the Institution while fostering a diverse and inclusive living, learning, and working community.

The University is a large, public doctoral university with a primarily residential undergraduate student body, total enrollment of 29,798 students, and holds a community engagement designation. ECU is the only UNC System university with a medical school, dental school, and engineering department at the same institution, the synergies of which provide a dynamic for biotechnology innovation and entrepreneurship.

The University is located in Greenville, NC, on land that is traditional Tuscarora territory and is widely recognized as the thriving cultural, educational, economic, and medical hub of eastern North Carolina. While retaining its regional charm and hospitality, Greenville is a flourishing, small metropolitan city of nearly 100,000 and offers a vibrant and ever-growing uptown district that is home to diverse art, music, food, and festival offerings and features an increasing number of unique, locally owned businesses, galleries, shops, and restaurants. Centrally located in eastern North Carolina, a region whose coastal environment provides a backdrop for tourism, water sports, and wildlife viewing, the Outer Banks to the east can be reached within a few hours’ drive, and Raleigh to the west is a couple hours away.
