Director, Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP)

The Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) invites applicants and nominations for the role of Director of the Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP).  In this highly visible leadership role, the Director will lead and oversee the administration and guidance of the MSTP Program. The ideal candidate will be an innovative leader with a strong record of mentorship, direct experience with combined degree students, and a demonstrated ability to build sustainable enterprise-wide programs.

The Director will be responsible for the overall operation of the MSTP Program, including responsibility for hiring and managing personnel and budgetary oversight. This role will have local, regional and national, exposure and the Director will lead the efforts to bring together health care professionals and organizations across the state/region.

 

Primary Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Lead, plan, and execute the vision/strategic plan for the continued growth and excellence of the MSTP with close integration of MCW’s four missions: community engagement, education, patient care, and research across all three campuses. 
  • Recruit, hire, develop, and mentor faculty and staff.
  • Organization, administration, and continuous review and analysis of all components of the office.
  • Program strategic planning and development.
  • Program curriculum development and oversight.
  • Monitoring of all fiscal management issues (e.g., budget development, expenditures, etc.).
  • Oversight of admissions process, recruitment, and orientation.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and institutional policies.
  • Oversight of administration and renewal of MCW’s MSTP T32 grant.
  • Supervision of the associate directors, principal and instructional faculty, and staff in all actives that directly relate to the MSTP.
  • Produce scholarship, academically productive and contribute to journals in related fields.
  • Create and recruit a diverse group of students and learners.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to facilitate the sharing of knowledge and resources.
  • Create and sustain relationships with MCWAH residency program directors.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • MD and/or PhD; candidates must possess qualifications for a faculty appointment at MCW.
  • Experience in medical education/administration, strong evidence of administrative ability, including, but not limited to: interpersonal, leadership, and management skills.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A significant leadership role in a complex, multi-faceted university or academic medical center, with demonstrated strategic and implementation skills.
  • A distinguished academic and professional career, including administration of administration of academic programs.
  • Previous experience training and advising graduate students.
  • Track record of successful NIH funding.
  • Direct experience with combined degree students.
