The Position: The Associate Vice President for Faculty Affairs reports directly to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. The AVP serves as a member of the Provost's senior administrative team to provide leadership for initiatives within the division of Academic Affairs. The AVP understands the mission of the university and the role of Faculty Affairs within that mission. The AVP oversees implementation of all faculty personnel processes, policies, and procedures; provides guidance and advice to the Provost on all faculty personnel matters; and provides consultative leadership to develop new faculty personnel policies and procedures for the campus. The AVP ensures compliance with the California Faculty Association Collective Bargaining Agreement and with the Unit 11 Collective Bargaining Agreement for academic student employees. The AVP maintains knowledge of CSU-wide faculty workload policies and procedures and makes recommendations for California State University Los Angeles faculty employees.
Required Qualifications and Experience: Doctoral or other terminal degree from an accredited college or university. Successful university teaching experience and a record of research, scholarly and creative activity sufficient to merit appointment as a tenured full professor. Three years of successful administrative experience as department chair or equivalent. Knowledge of the broad spectrum of activities that relate to faculty personnel processes and procedures. Experience in academic personnel administration, policies, and procedures in a collective bargaining environment. Knowledge and experience in the area of faculty development and department chair leadership. Experience in organizing or facilitating faculty development opportunities that address issues related to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Demonstrated interest and ability to work and communicate effectively in a multicultural/ multiethnic environment. Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion, including experience bringing an equity lens to issues of race, gender, sexuality, and ability. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who apply for the position.
Desired Qualifications: Five years of successful administrative experience at the college and/or university level. Ability to provide leadership and work collaboratively university-wide to support the mission of the university and function effectively on the Provost’s senior leadership team. Familiarity with the collective bargaining process and experience working collaboratively in a collective bargaining environment. Demonstrated ability to: successfully recruit and mentor faculty; work successfully with faculty governance; and supervise and manage office personnel successfully.
Compensation: Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. A comprehensive benefits package is provided.
Appointment: The Administrator IV appointment will be made under the guidelines for management and supervisory employees of the California State University. All rights and benefits associated with this appointment are governed by the Management Personnel Plan.
This position is a "designated position" in the California State University's Conflict of Interest Code. The successful candidate accepting this position is required to file Conflict of Interest forms subject to the regulations of the Fair Political Practices Commission.
