Norfolk State University, located in Norfolk, Virginia, is pleased to announce its search for the University's next Dean of the Lyman Beecher Brooks Library. The Library seeks a Dean who will provide strong, purposeful and informed intellectual leadership within the Library, across the campus, and in relationships with the external community.  The University also seeks a collaborative leader who has the ability to build partnerships within the university and throughout the community and possesses a clear understanding of national trends in higher education and the academic library profession.

The successful candidate must possess exemplary academic credentials including an earned Master’s degree in Library Science from an American Library Association accredited school and a proven record as a scholar and educator with significant academic learnership experience. The next Dean will demonstrate unquestioned integrity and honesty as well as comprehensive experience in understanding accreditation standards requirements, budget management, and supervising the work of others in different cultures, ages, etc.

Founded in 1935, Norfolk State College was brought to life during the Great Depression. More than 40 years later, university status was attained. Today the University serves approximately 5,100 students and has five academic colleges/schools and 49 degree programs that operate on one campus.
