Job Summary
The Vice President for Humanism, Equity, and Anti-Racism will lead, coordinate, and facilitate humanism, equity and anti-racism activities and will develop a University center to advance the mission of promoting a humanistic, equitable, inclusive, and anti-racist culture at Western University of Health Sciences.
The VP for Humanism, Equity, and Anti-Racism will facilitate analysis, quantification and annual assessment of overall WesternU humanistic, equity, inclusivity and antiracism actions and collaborate with the Office of Institutional Research in developing and maintaining the institutional records relevant to diversity of the faculty, staff and students, including, but not limited to Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC).

The VP for Humanism, Equity, and Anti-Racism will assist the College Deans and other leaders and stakeholders in obtaining grants supporting the Center for Humanism, Equity, and Anti-Racism mission and will provide an annual report documenting activities and achievements of the department.

The VP for Humanism, Equity, and Anti-Racism may hold a concurrent academic appointment at WesternU, commensurate with qualifications and subject to applicable review processes.

The VP is a member of President's Senior Executive Team. and reports directly to the President.

Essential Job Duties
25% 1. Convey recommendations directly to senior leadership and develop action plans, policies, and procedures for addressing campus culture, climate, policy and priorities of humanism, inclusivity, equity and anti-racism.
25% 2. Develop, establish, lead, and coordinate a center that meets the specific needs of traditionally underserved, historically and currently marginalized, disadvantaged and untapped students, staff, and faculty groups, including but not limited to BIPOC, Latinx, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer (LGBTQ+) and other underrepresented peoples.
10% 3. Collaborate with the Office of Institutional Research on diversity data acquisition, climate assessment, analysis, reporting, and providing recommendations for action to various campus units. Monitor and contribute to accreditation and compliance reporting related to bias and discrimination. Maintain University-level records on the Center for Humanism, Equity, and Anti-Racism activities. Advance programmatic data analysis and quantify outcomes. Provide feedback informed data to the senior leadership and stakeholders. Collaboratively enhance the success of pipeline programs, increase recruitment, retention, and graduation rates of underrepresented and untapped students at WesternU.
10% 4. Develop, establish, lead, and coordinate a Bias Response Team; provide a reporting process support, including wellness, resources, referrals, follow-up and a safe space for students and employees.
10% 5. Represent WesternU at conferences, professional associations, local, state, and national organizations, as appropriate, in coordination with other WesternU leaders and stakeholders.
10% 6. Serve in a consulting capacity to the Office of Human Resources and the Office of Legal Affairs, where appropriate.
10% 7. Work collaboratively with the Office of Sponsored Research and Advancement, the College Deans and other leaders and stakeholders to seek funding from governmental and foundation sources to support Center for Humanism, Equity, and Anti-Racism activities and programs of the University and its colleges.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Individuals must possess the knowledge, as well as the following skills and abilities or be able to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

1. Significant experience leading diversity, inclusion, equity, and anti-racist institutional change processes in higher education.
2. Educational background, work, and life experience from one or more areas of: human and civil rights, the effects of racism on physical and mental health, health equity, health policy, healthcare provisions, especially upon BIPOC and underserved communities and restorative justice practices in higher education. Knowledge about the history and effects of systemic racism on public health outcomes and how to empower educators to prepare medical professions to mitigate disparate outcomes.
3. Ability to collaborate vertically and across the University to design, build, and execute an engagement and activation strategy, increasing the impact and effectiveness of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
4. Excellent verbal and written communication skills to address a diverse population; organize, coordinate, and moderate group sessions; and develop and maintain effective relationships with other internal and external constituents.
5. Ability to collaborate vertically and across the University to design, build, and execute an engagement and activation strategy, increasing the impact and effectiveness of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
6. Proven analytical, organization, problem-solving, and multi-tasking skills required to oversee the prioritizing, delegating, and managing. Ability to meet deadlines and function effectively under pressure. Ability to analyze, compare and evaluate various courses of action and exercise authority to make independent decisions on matters of significance related to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
7. Leadership with established experience advocating for the needs of students and employees.

Required Qualifications
1. Education: Doctorate degree in applicable field with at least five years of work and/or life experience in applicable field.
2. Experience: Have a minimum three years' experience as a transformative change agent whose professional department and interpersonal skills include discretion, successful conflict management, transparency and integrity.
3. Knowledge: Advanced understanding of and sensitivity to meeting the needs of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability status, gender identity, sexual orientation and ethnic identities of the WesternU student, community, and employee populations.

Preferred Qualifications
1. Experience: Previous experience as a successful change agent in a higher education setting including academic health sciences programs preferable, as well as experience in alternative dispute resolution/ mediation, leading, delivering, and participating in trainings that foster inclusive climates.
