Bilingual Education Professor - Open Rank

The School of Education (SOE) at CSU Channel Islands (CSUCI) seeks a open rank professor with a background in K-12 bilingual education (preferably Spanish) to join the work of our current teaching credential faculty across three credential areas (elementary, secondary and special education).

The School of Education at CSUCI has several programs including Teacher Credential Programs which serve candidates seeking elementary, secondary or special education teaching credentials with the option of earning the Bilingual Authorization in Spanish. There are two undergraduate programs offering Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies and Early Childhood Studies. In addition, there is a graduate program offering a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership with the option of completing the requirements for a Preliminary Administrative Services Credential and a Master of Arts in Education with areas of emphasis in Curriculum and Instruction or Disability Studies.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach methods courses in Bilingual Instruction and related content areas.
  • Coordinate Bilingual Authorization Program.
  • Scholarly work or emerging research agenda that leads to peer reviewed publications.
  • Supervise teacher candidates in public schools.
  • Service activities in the School of Education, University and Community.
  • Advise students.

Minimum Degree Requirements:

Applicants must have an accredited Doctoral degree in Education or a closely related field. ABD candidates will be considered but must have completed the Doctoral degree by August 18, 2021.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching in a Spanish Bilingual or Spanish Dual Language Instruction in K-12 setting.
  • Record of successful credentialed K-12 school teaching for a minimum of three years, with demonstrated effectiveness in teaching multi-ethnic, multicultural and/or multi-lingual students using a variety of methods and technologies.
  • Commitment to student success and diversity in K-12 settings.
  • Evidence of commitment and ability to work in teams.
  • An emerging record of scholarship in one or more areas of emphasis in education.
  • Evidence of commitment to one's own discipline and to the broader institution.

For Assistant Professor consideration:

  • An emerging record of scholarship in one or more areas of emphasis in education.

For Associate/Full Professor consideration: 

  • Hold tenure at current institution and be eligible for tenure at CSUCI.
  • Record of exceptional university teaching of methods and/or teacher education courses in Spanish Bilingual or Dual Language foundations and methods.

Applicants should demonstrate the ability and commitment to effectively work with and engage a diverse student population and evidence of successful mentoring minoritized students with special focus on Latinx, African-American, and Native American students.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctoral specialization in Bilingual Education or Dual Language Instruction.
  • Professional expertise and demonstrated excellence in teaching methods courses and clinical practice supervision at the university level.
  • Record of positive relationships with school district personnel, students, and families.
  • Credential emphasis in bilingual education or equivalent.
  • Experience working in Teacher Residency Programs.
  • Experience working with students with special learning needs.
  • Experience collaborating or co-teaching with related service providers.
  • Experience in and commitment to ongoing, outcomes-based, program assessment of teaching and learning.
  • Knowledge of regional or national accreditation processes and preparation of required documentation.
  • Experience in on-line or blended teaching and course development.
  • Record of grant and contract acquisition.
