Dean of Students and Vice President for Student Affairs

Skidmore College invites applications and nominations for a creative and dynamic Dean of Students and Vice President for Student Affairs who will provide excellent leadership, vision, and direction for the Division of Student Affairs.  The next Dean of Students and Vice President for Student Affairs will help lead Skidmore College’s efforts to support a diverse and engaged student population as we transition into a post-covid world, and help foster discussions on social justice, mental health, inclusivity, and respect for the views of others.

At Skidmore, Creative Thought Matters in every way. The College’s curriculum reflects this value by balancing a commitment to the liberal arts with an emphasis on interdisciplinarity along with preparation for professions, civic leadership, and lifelong learning. A highly selective, nationally ranked liberal arts college, Skidmore currently enrolls approximately 2,600 undergraduate students in over 40 degree programs, including programs in both traditional liberal arts and pre-professional disciplines.

Located in Saratoga Springs, NY, the Skidmore campus sits adjacent to the Adirondack Mountains, just a half-hour drive from the tri-city area of Albany, Schenectady, and Troy, and a three-hour drive from New York City, Boston, and Montreal.

The Dean of Students and Vice President for Student Affairs reports to the President and is a key member of President’s Cabinet. The Dean/Vice President serves as one of the principal advocates for student learning in partnership with key campus constituencies including faculty, staff, and students.  The Dean/Vice President oversees seven direct reports, 100 divisional staff, and a departmental budget of $8.5 million.

The College seeks a Dean/Vice President who will provide high-level leadership, vision, and guidance to the division and the College, and who will partner with new president Marc Conner in an ambitious and aspirational agenda for the College. The Dean/Vice President has responsibility for all co-curricular dimensions of Skidmore’s broad educational mission. The Dean/Vice President works with the professionals within Student Affairs and with others across the entire Skidmore community to cultivate student achievement, responsibility, and leadership in an environment that is committed to academic excellence and the development of the whole person.
