The School of Life Sciences (SOLS) invites applications for a full-time, benefits-eligible Lecturer position to develop and teach in-person and online courses in the Conservation Biology and Ecology undergraduate degree program. The anticipated start date for this position is August 2021. Subsequent academic year renewals (Aug. 16 to May 15) are contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of resources, and the needs of the unit.

We seek an individual who is dedicated to excellence in teaching; is invested in developing inclusive curricula and teaching approaches to support the success of our students, many of whom are underrepresented in STEM disciplines; and is excited to collaborate with faculty members who are engaged in research and education in ecology, conservation, biodiversity, evolution and behavior of organisms, or other topics relevant to global environmental change.

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and teaching existing new undergraduate courses in ecology and conservation. In addition to teaching, other responsibilities will include supervising graduate teaching assistants and developing courses materials with other faculty and staff. This person will also support the school, college and university in capacities appropriate for the position.

Minimum Qualifications:
• PhD or equivalent advanced degree, in environmental biology, ecology, conservation or closely related field at time of appointment
• Two years of post-secondary teaching experience, including experience teaching ecology or conservation

Desired qualifications:
• Experience teaching courses in ecology and conservation, and developing in-person and online courses
• Demonstrated understanding of the particular needs of online students
• Demonstrated success meeting the needs of underrepresented student populations or reaching out to diverse communities
• Substantial intellectual engagement with issues in ecology and conservation
• Evidence of collaborative activities with other faculty and staff, especially in the biological sciences
• Experience supervising and mentoring undergraduate students and graduate teaching
assistants • Experience with recent pedagogical advances such as active learning, backwards course design, inclusive curricula, etc.
• Participation in the higher education community and professional development activities (e.g., authoring educational and/or scientific publications, work with local communities, presenting at conferences, attending workshops, etc.)
