The School of Life Sciences (SOLS) invites applications for a full-time, benefits-eligible Instructor position with an anticipated start date August 2021. Subsequent academic year renewals (Aug. 16 to May 15) are contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of resources, and the needs of the unit.
We seek an individual who is dedicated to excellence in teaching; is invested in developing inclusive curricula and teaching approaches to support the success of our diverse students, many of whom are underrepresented in STEM disciplines; and is excited to collaborate with faculty members who are engaged in research and education in physiology.

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and teaching existing and new undergraduate courses in anatomy and physiology (e.g., BIO 201 & BIO 202 (Human Anatomy and Physiology), BIO 360 (Animal Physiology), BIO 361 (Animal Physiology lab) and related courses). These courses are expected to be taught on-campus and online. In addition to teaching, responsibilities will include supervising teaching assistants and developing course materials with other faculty and staff. This person will also serve the school, college, and university in capacities appropriate for the position.

Minimum Qualifications:
• PhD or equivalent advanced degree with a research focus in physiology by time of appointment.
• Demonstration of understanding of the underpinnings of physiology in submitted or published first-authored peer-reviewed research publication(s).
• Four courses of post-secondary teaching experience as a teaching assistant, or two courses as an instructor of record in anatomy or physiology courses focused on humans or animals.
• A commitment to excellence and inclusivity in teaching that promotes mastery of physiology topics and biological concepts and higher-order thinking (as evidenced by documented use of evidence-based and inclusive teaching methods, use of technology to engage students and assess learning in large courses, or teaching awards)

Desired qualifications:
• Ability to develop innovative courses in anatomy and physiology as evidenced by teaching
or course development experience and/or professional preparation • Experience teaching and developing online courses
• Demonstrated commitment to serving and understanding the particular needs of online students
• Demonstrated commitment to inclusive teaching, for example, as evidenced by success in meeting the needs of underrepresented student populations
• Evidence of collaborative teaching and research activities with other faculty and staff
• Evidence of successful supervising and mentoring of teaching assistants and undergraduate researchers
• Participation in the higher education community and professional development activities (e.g., published peer-reviewed papers, presenting at conferences, attending workshops, etc.)
