Job Description:

The College of Wooster is seeking a Director of Residence Life. This position is responsible for providing visionary leadership, guidance, and oversight for an inclusive and vibrant residence life program which is a critical part of our strategic plan at this private, residential, liberal arts college. With focus on building welcoming, engaged residential communities and student support, the Residence Life program complements the academic mission of the College. Our mission includes a primary commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in every aspect of our programs, with a student body from across the US and around the world.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

 

  • Create welcoming, inclusive, student centered environments within residential spaces on campus. Facilitate educational interventions and support.
  • Develop a long-term vision for the residential program, including student learning outcomes and regular assessment of those learning outcomes.
  • Recruit, train, supervise and evaluate Residence Life Staff, including full-time professional staff, residential graduate assistants and student resident advisors.
  • Serve as a direct and approachable resource for students who are experiencing difficulties related to their residential life or residential space.
  • Communicate with a variety of constituencies including, students, parents, staff, faculty, alumni, and vendors.
  • Adjudicate cases as a campus conduct officer, as requested by the Director of Student Rights and Responsibilities and resolve student disciplinary issues in residential spaces.
  • Work collaboratively as a key partner with the Director of Student Rights and Responsibilities to develop and reinforce proactive community standards within residential spaces.
  • Participate in the 24-hour on-call schedule for student emergencies and follow up with appropriate interventions.

 

 


Requirements:

Education and Experience:

Master's degree in education or related field plus a minimum of five years of full-time, substantial, and progressive experience supervising various residential life and/or housing programs; experience in managing a housing program that includes educational programming and outcomes.

Required Qualifications:

 

 

  • Experience in program development, inclusive community building, advising and mentoring, crisis intervention, staff supervision and development.
  • Demonstrated success in leading residential programs that promote inclusive excellence, and that support the thriving of international, BIPOC, LGBTQIA+ and other historically marginalized or underrepresented students.
  • Must be highly motivated, collaborative, energetic, and ready to assume the responsibility for a comprehensive program; must be imaginative and creative; must be able to promote and motivate high enthusiasm for the residential life program.
  • Appreciation for the relationship between the academic and residential life programs at a private, liberal arts institution.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal; strong organizational skills; the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines; and computer literacy.
  • Willingness to live on or near campus and a commitment to engaging with the campus community in formal and informal ways.
