The Ohio State University seeks an accomplished, dynamic, and strategic IT executive to serve as its next Vice President and Chief Information Officer (VP/CIO). This is a tremendous opportunity to join a vibrant and progressive university located in one of the fastest growing cities in the U.S.

 

The VP/CIO will report to the Executive Vice President and Provost and is the senior-most executive leading IT across a large, Research 1 university with over 68,000 students. As a strategic leader, the VP/CIO will oversee a forward thinking, enterprise focused IT organization that champions the progressive use of technology to further the mission of The Ohio State University. In addition to leading the Office of the CIO (OCIO), the VP/CIO has leadership responsibility of the Office of Distance Education and eLearning (ODEE). In this capacity, the VP/CIO will support the digital presence of The Ohio State University programs as the university continually seeks new ways to engage current students, prospective students and alumni in their education journey. To this end, the VP/CIO must be customer-centric with a strong focus on driving efficiency and innovation.

 

The VP/CIO will lead in continually improving the capabilities of the IT enterprise by implementing the appropriate technologies to assure that The Ohio State University effectively meets its objectives in education, research and community outreach. The VP/CIO will collaborate and partner with senior leaders, faculty, peers and institutional staff to optimally align IT with the goals and strategic direction of The Ohio State University. In addition to the central IT priorities, the VP/CIO will collaborate closely with distributed IT groups to enable consensus and better coordination of shared services and support. Establishing a strong partnership with the Chief Information Officer of The Ohio State Wexner Medical Center is essential.

 

The VP/CIO will have a central role in the success of several key strategic initiatives including the growth of distance education, advancing the research computing environment and providing IT resources in support of campus expansion. The VP/CIO will provide the strategic and operational leadership needed to oversee the continued digital transformation that will bring value, address equity and improve the user experience overall for students, faculty and administrators. The Ohio State University recently went live with the Workday ERP system for its finance, HR, and supply chain function. The VP/CIO will support the optimization of those systems and the process and cultural transformation to leverage the systems effectively.

 

The successful candidate will be a highly experienced IT professional who will bring strong leadership and a demonstrated track record in strategic planning and executing in complex academic institutions. They will be a collaborative partner who is service oriented and can build trust, credibility and consensus with constituents across the campus. They will be committed to building a diverse team to serve the university, as well as formulating strategies to address offering technology to a diverse workforce and student body and helping to bridge the digital divide between university stakeholders and the community. The VP/CIO will be an innovative leader with a global vision and knowledge of new trends in technology supporting education and research. The VP/CIO will have strong communication skills with the ability to facilitate change and balance resources and priorities effectively.
