Vice President of Enrollment Management

Earlham College, a selective, private national liberal arts college founded in 1847, is accepting inquiries, applications, and nominations for the role of Vice President of Enrollment Management (VPEM). Among the select 40 "Colleges that Change Lives," Earlham's mission is to "provide the highest quality undergraduate education in the liberal arts, including the sciences, shaped by the distinctive perspectives of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers)." These values inform the College's emphasis on seeking the truth wherever it leads, respect for persons, peacemaking, diversity, and global education with international experience.

Earlham is located in Richmond, Indiana, on a beautiful 800-acre campus that includes Earlham College and also the Earlham School of Religion. Nearly 600 of its acres are woods, streams, ponds, fields, and prairie used for scientific research and recreation. Approximately 1,000 undergraduate students come from 47 states and 60 countries, with nearly 85% of last year's incoming class participating in at least one of its 15 athletic programs. The Earlham student body is among the nation’s most diverse of 100 nationally selective liberal arts colleges. Faculty and staff also bring tremendous diversity to the College — many have lived and worked outside the United States, and they make a point of drawing on those experiences in their interactions with students. Additionally, Earlham makes it a priority to serve as a safe and welcoming place for LGBTQ+ communities. Since 1998, Earlham has expanded, renovated, and constructed major campus buildings — academic, residence halls, and athletic facilities — representing an investment of over $70 million. The College has adopted a new brand to sharpen its image as a leading national liberal arts institution and initiated a strategic plan designed to position it for future growth. Under the leadership of President Anne M. Houtman, a distinguished educator, scientist, author, and higher education leader who became Earlham's 20th president on July 1, 2019, this is an exceptional time to join the Earlham community.

Reporting to the President, the Vice President of Enrollment Management will provide an inspirational, strategic, and innovative vision to meet the enrollment goals for a talented and diverse student body. With responsibility for teams in admission and financial aid, the VPEM will bring confidence, optimism, and a forward-thinking view in the execution of short- and long-term enrollment strategies. A central and vital member of Earlham's senior leadership team, the spirit of collaboration and the ability to develop relationships of mutual support across the College will be essential to the VPEM's success.

The new VPEM will possess a strong record of success, commitment to the values of a liberal arts education, and the technical and strategic skills necessary to provide inspiration and direction in enrollment planning, student recruitment, admission, and financial aid. The successful candidate will possess the ability to be innovative, creative, and agile and promote the traditions and culture that are distinctly Earlham, leading the efforts of enrolling bright and inquisitive students who will make a difference in the world. The willingness to work within a highly inclusive and collaborative culture, gaining and building trust with faculty, trustees, senior leadership, students, and staff is imperative. Previous experience in working closely with attracting and matriculating student athletes from a wide variety of backgrounds is highly desired.

As a community dedicated to excellence in liberal arts education and informed by Quaker principles, Earlham College welcomes the contributions of divergent voices as it seeks to foster a deep, shared sense of purpose. The successful candidate must convey a commitment to and record of advancing student access as well as diversity in all its forms.
