The Department of Mathematics at the University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a pool of qualified part-time, non-tenure track Lecturer positions for the Academic year of 2021-22 and Summer 2021. Screening of applicants is ongoing and will continue as needed. The number of positions varies from semester to semester, depending on the needs of the department. Positions may range from 50% to 100% time.

Due to Covid-19, courses taught during the spring semester will be taught remotely. During the summer and fall of 2021, courses may be taught remotely, in-person, or via a hybrid model, as required by county and state public health guidelines. Remote instruction may be synchronous, asynchronous, or a combination of both. Instructors must have internet access and be prepared to adjust pedagogical approaches with a remote setting and use new teaching tools.

Lecturer in Summer Session appointments will be made for the eight-week session from June 21, 2021, through August 13, 2021.

Teaching Responsibilities: We seek outstanding lecturers capable of teaching one or more courses in the undergraduate mathematics curriculum. Courses will be assigned on an as-needed basis. A listing of courses is available at http://math.berkeley.edu/courses/choosing/course-descriptions.

General duties: Lecturers are expected to teach classes, hold office hours, develop syllabi and assignments, write, administer, and grade exams, assign course grades, and maintain course website(s). Other duties may be assigned by the Department Chair as necessary.

Basic Qualifications (by the time of application): Applicants must have an advanced degree or be enrolled in an advanced degree program.

Additional Qualifications (by start date): An advanced degree is required by the start date.

Preferred Qualifications: A PhD (or equivalent international degree) in Mathematics or related field, demonstrated excellence in teaching, and documented experience in teaching at the college level is preferred.

Salary: The minimum annual full-time salary rate is $56,381 based on a full-time teaching load. The starting compensation for teaching one course in the summer is $6,201. Salary is commensurate with college teaching experience.

Appointments for the fall semester are usually reviewed in May, for the spring semester in November, and for Summer in April.

UC Lecturers are academic appointees in an organized bargaining unit and are exclusively represented by American Federation of Teachers - Unit 18.
