Institutional Effectiveness Reporting Specialist

Position Overview: The Institutional Effectiveness Reporting Specialist works collaboratively as a member of a five-person team in the college’s institutional effectiveness office to support data-driven decision making at the institution and division levels by producing data extracts, executive summaries, research reports, and interactive data tools for both technical and non-technical audiences. The position also collaborates to identify data and technical support needs and provides appropriate support and training to improve access to data across the college.

Responsibilities:

  • This position will be responsible for all functions to support the delivery of end-user ready information. Assist with the development of queries, actionable insights, and plans for capitalizing on data in support of institutional priorities.
  • The position will create and maintain end-user reports (Cognos) and dashboards (Tableau) in collaboration with institutional effectiveness staff, create and maintain technical documentation, including data dictionaries, and transform operational data into a reporting data warehouse.
  • Collaborates with the institutional effectiveness team to determine information needs and relevant data to support campus decision-making; promotes data awareness and availability to support decisions.
  • Performs various research tasks including data retrieval/collection (surveys), tracking, and reporting on special institutional research/analysis projects prioritized by the IE office, related to student access and success as well as institutional effectiveness.
  • Provide Cognos and Tableau support and programming services to the functional users.
  • Develop, test, and debug Cognos report writer scripts for functional users.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred)
  • Minimum two years of work experience
  • Experience writing SQL based queries in a student information system.
  • Strong understanding of data structures, database design, relational and dimensional data modeling.
  • Experience with data visualization using JavaScript, CSS, HTML, or data visualization products such as Cognos and Tableau. Cognos Report Writer and Tableau experience and knowledge of database management systems is preferred.
  • Knowledge of computer programs such as word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, software, and applications, including online (Google) versions.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and decisions expeditiously.
  • Ability to maintain the confidentiality of any sensitive information.
  • Ability to multi-task, meet specific deadlines, and prioritize tasks and assignments.
  • Knowledge of current trends and issues in higher education.
