Position Description:
UCLA External Affairs (EA) division encompasses Advancement Services, Alumni Affairs, Development, and Government & Community Relations. Within EA is a common goal to connect UCLA donors, faculty, staff, students, alumni and friends through strategies and programs designed to build long-term relationships and support for the university. As part of our work, EA strives to create an environment of inclusive excellence enriched by diverse perspectives where all individuals can flourish.

Reporting to the Vice Chancellor, External Affairs, and the Senior Executive Director, Employee and Organizational Engagement (EOE), the Director of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) will serve as a strategic advisor to EA leadership. This individual will be a driver in our core work of fundraising and advocacy. The Director will provide guidance on all matters, programs and initiatives related to the development and implementation of short- and long-term strategies to bring about, nurture and sustain equity in all aspects of EA's work. This individual will work collaboratively with UCLA's Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion and campus Equity Advisors to create the appropriate framework for EA's EDI programmatic efforts and initiatives, aligning with campus-wide efforts. The Director will serve as an EDI expert and organizational thought-leader for EA in the creation and execution of action plans and integrated solutions that will drive inclusive behaviors and business practices at all levels of EA. This individual will be responsible for developing, executing and managing employee EDI programs, including implementing best practices and assessment methods to monitor performance and inform decisions on how to achieve equity objectives.

The Director will work collaboratively with the Training unit to deliver EDI training programs, including, but not limited to, professional development, leadership development, cultural sensitivity, and implicit bias, as well as staff engagement events that educate and raise awareness. This individual will work with the Talent Acquisition unit to recruit diverse talent, with emphasis on growth opportunities for current staff. The Director will collaborate with HR to imbed EDI into all talent systems across the employee life cycle. In addition, the Director will lead EA's EDI Council, and represent EA and UCLA at various university and external events, conferences and community engagements.
