Faculty Positions (All ranks and tenure status)
The Columbia School of Social Work (CSSW) invites applications for faculty positions at the ranks of Professor (tenured), Associate Professor (tenured or tenure-track), and Assistant Professor (tenure-track).
At CSSW, we seek to place social justice and racial justice at the center of all we do. We are uniquely attuned to the persistence and consequences of racist policies and practices that sustain inequities. The School works in opposition to these forces to promote human well-being at every level across all strata of society, and to ensure that all can reach their full potential.
For more than 120 years, CSSW has been a leader in educating professionals for careers in social work practice, policy, and administration. The School offers Master’s and doctoral programs that are widely recognized for their excellence. In addition, we aim to maintain a work environment in which all faculty can thrive.
CSSW is now conducting a faculty search, targeting scholars of race and racism, with a particular focus on anti-Black racism. We are adopting a “systems thinking” approach to analyzing the complex forces that drive disparities, and how those forces interrelate. A systems mindset affords us a window into how economic, education, criminal justice, technology, and health systems are interwoven and have deep impact on the well-being of Black Americans. We seek to hire a cluster of faculty at the junior and senior levels in the aforementioned areas to help untangle these formidable issues and reveal systems solutions to restructuring policies and practices to maximize well-being and achieve equity.
PhD in Social Work or related field is required.
To hold the rank of Professor, candidates are expected to be widely recognized for their distinction in terms of scholarship, teaching, mentoring, and application of findings for the betterment of society. Their work should have a demonstrable impact on the thinking in their fields, and these scholars must be prepared to apply their knowledge in practice. Successful candidates must have extensive experience in teaching and research, and a record of extramurally-funded research will be highly valued.
To hold the Associate Professor rank, candidates are expected to have a demonstrated record of scholarly and teaching achievement and show great promise of attaining distinction in their field of specialization. To be considered an Associate Professor with tenure, the candidate must show an established record of innovative and vigorous research productivity and strong teaching evaluations. Special consideration will be given to those who also maintain an extramurally-funded research program.
Candidates for the rank of Assistant Professor are expected to be at the beginning of a career of independent scholarly research and teaching, and demonstrate great promise of attaining distinction in their field of specialization.
