The Search

The University of South Florida (USF), a comprehensive metropolitan public university, seeks a transformational, inspirational, energetic, and relational leader to serve as Dean of the College of Education (COEDU).  As one of only three Florida Preeminent Research Universities as designated by the Florida Board of Governors, and America’s fastest-rising university, now ranked #46 among public universities by U.S. News and World Report, USF is on a trajectory for eventual eligibility for Association of American Universities (AAU) membership, enrolling approximately 50,000 students across three campuses, USF is known as a high-impact global research university dedicated to student success and retention.

USF is seeking an accomplished scholar, visionary leader and proven academic administrator to become the next COEDU Dean. The ideal candidate will be a transformative and inspirational individual who can build on faculty strengths to provide a long-range vision, specific strategies, and detailed administrative and fiscal provisions to achieve the mission of a forward-thinking, technologically advanced, sustainable and globally-innovative COEDU.  The Dean will understand and promote the potential for collaborations between the COEDU and other USF Colleges and community partners in strategically managing enrollments, building resources and building innovative programs for the College. The Dean will represent the COEDU externally and lead philanthropic efforts.  The Dean will understand the importance of social justice and demonstrate a commitment to addressing systemic racism.  The Dean will advocate for the COEDU in the allocations of university resources, and provide strong leadership for the college’s faculty, staff and students.

USF has retained Isaacson, Miller, a national executive search firm to assist in this important recruitment.  After extensive consultation with a wide variety of stakeholders and drawing on the University’s existing materials, this document has been prepared to describe the personal and professional characteristics that the ideal candidate should possess.
