Assistant Professor in Biomechanics

The Department of Biomedical Engineering and Mechanics (BEAM) at Virginia Tech invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the assistant professor level effective August 2021. Those with expertise in biomechanics as well as broader scholarly interests in theoretical, computational, and/or experimental methods to investigate biological systems at any scale are encouraged to apply. Candidates should have a doctoral degree in biomedical engineering, engineering mechanics, or a closely related discipline, prior to the effective date of the appointment. Postdoctoral experience leading projects beyond graduate school is considered preferred. The successful candidates will be responsible for developing a strong externally sponsored research program, teaching courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and mentoring students.

BEAM is an interdisciplinary department with faculty having broad interests spanning engineering, science, mathematics, and medicine. It offers BS, MS, and PhD degrees in biomedical engineering and in engineering mechanics, and currently has 42 faculty, a new undergraduate biomedical engineering program, and nearly 200 graduate students.
