Hiring Pay Range: $71,527 - $77,960, DOE

I. Job Summary
The Associate Dean of Students provides effective leadership and supervision in five key areas of accountability that support the entrance, persistence, and successful completion of the academic experience at Naropa University: 1) Student Housing, 2) Student Advocacy (including Student Conduct and Title IX), 3) Orientation & Transition Programs, 4) Case Management, and 5) Commencement. Provides effective leadership and supervision. Success in this role is measured in each of these five areas. Serves as liaison for the Naropa University community and acts as a referral resource for faculty, staff, students, parents, and families.

Key Accountability 1 - Student Housing
Percentage of Total Effort: ~ 10%
Functions & Duties
1. Direct the Housing & Campus Life department, which provides 100 on-campus housing units and over 30 clubs and organizations.
2. Assist with occupancy projections for on-campus housing.
3. Create a housing master plan for the university.

Key Accountability 2 - Student Advocacy
Percentage of Total Effort: ~ 25%
Functions & Duties
1. Serve as the primary student conduct officer for the university.
2. Supports the Title IX Coordinator.
3. Creates a restorative justice model for student conduct.

Key Accountability 3 - Orientation & Transition Programs
Percentage of Total Effort: ~ 25%
Functions & Duties
1. Develop, implements, and assess a comprehensive orientation and transition program supporting new students and families during their entrance into the university.
2. Collaborate with other campus partners to ensure a successful transition for all incoming students into the campus community.
3. Manage all parent/family communications in collaboration with the Office of Admissions.
4. Supervise student orientation leaders and work closely with all Student Affairs staff to launch orientation week (online, in-person, or a combination of the two).
5. Manage recruitment, training, supervision, and evaluation of Student Orientation Leaders, staff and faculty presenters, and Orientation volunteers.
6. Assist in the coordination and implementation of Orientation for all new, transfer, undergraduate, and graduate students, as well as family Orientation programs.
7. Assist with Orientation and transitional program event planning, including scheduling, securing presenters, and organizing information and resources.
8. Oversee departmental communications in collaboration with campus partners, including Orientation schedule, promotional materials, facilitator guides, etc.
9. Manage parent/family programs and communications.
10. Other duties as required.

Key Accountability 4 - Case Management
Percentage of Total Effort: ~ 25%
Functions & Duties
1. Work closely with the VP for Student Success to conduct case management and follow-up for students who require additional support and resources.
2. Chair weekly Students of Concern (SOC) team meetings.
3. Assist with case management activities and student follow-up to aid in retention efforts.
4. Other duties as required.

Key Accountability 5 - Commencement
Percentage of Total Effort: ~ 15%
Functions & Duties
1. Work closely with the Offices of the President and Student Affairs to assist in the development of Commencement (remote, in-person, or a combination of the two), including pre-Commencement ceremonies and activities.
2. Serves on the Commencement Planning Team.
3. Other duties as required.

III. Minimum Qualifications & Competencies
Job candidates for this position are required to possess the qualifications and competencies listed below to be eligible for this job. 1. Understanding of and commitment to upholding the Vision, Mission, and Code of Conduct of Naropa University through aligned personal behaviors, actions, and communications
2. Ability to co-create an inclusive community and actively participate in related professional development, including but not limited to Restorative Justice, Dynamics of Privilege and Oppression, and the impact these have in the workplace, Feedback, and commitment to ongoing self-examination
3. Master's degree in appropriate area of specialization (Higher Education, College Student Personnel, Education, Counseling, Social Work, etc.)
4. Three (3) years of progressive experience in Case Management, Student Conduct, Orientation, and/or Campus Life
5. Experience planning and implementing large scale events
6. Demonstrated experience supervising, developing, mentoring, and motivating a diverse team
7. Applied understanding of student development theory, including the impact of orientation and transition programs on academic success
8. Experience building collaborative partnerships with faculty, administrators, students, parents, and community partners
9. Experience with case management/supporting students of concern
10. Multicultural competence and a demonstrated commitment to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion in all forms
11. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
12. Ability to manage multiple collaborative projects and systems in a fast-paced environment
13. Ability to provide administrative guidance within the area of responsibility, providing direct training and supervision as needed
14. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the public

IV. Preferred Qualifications & Competencies

The qualifications and competencies listed below are not required, but preferred in candidates for this position.

1. Ed.D. or terminal degree in related field
2. Five (5) years of relevant experience as listed above
3. Bilingual (Spanish/English)

V. Supervision Received

General Supervision:The supervisor provides continuing or individual assignments by indicating generally what is to be done, limitations, quality and quantity expected, deadlines and priorities. Additional, specific instructions are given for new, difficult, or unusual assignments. The employee uses initiative in carrying out recurring assignments. The supervisor assures that the work is technically accurate and in compliance with instructions or established procedures.

General Direction:Assignments are made in terms of broad practice, precedents, policies, and goals. Work may be reviewed for fulfillment of program objectives and conformance with departmental policy and practice.
