Senior Vice President and Provost

The University of Oklahoma (OU) invites nominations and applications for a dynamic and innovative Senior Vice President and Provost. The University of Oklahoma is a thriving institution, one of the premier, comprehensive, public, R1 research universities in the nation, proud of its public mission and eager to continue its ascent up the ranks of excellence. In furtherance of this, OU seeks a leader whose vision places a priority on community, educational rigor, traditional and applied scholarship, teaching, a global presence, and public service.

The Senior Vice President and Provost of the Norman campus reports to the President of the University and is responsible for fulfilling the academic mission of the University. As the Chief Academic Officer of the Norman campus, the Provost provides academic and administrative leadership for instruction, research and creative activity, and public service. The Provost is responsible for intellectual standards and academic policies; institutional planning and budgeting; resource and enrollment management; and the recruitment, retention, and development of faculty and students. The Provost works closely with members of the staff, the college deans, and other administrative leaders to carry out these responsibilities.

OU has over 30,000 students and more than 2,700 full-time faculty members offering nearly 500 different graduate and undergraduate degree programs on three campuses (Norman, Oklahoma City, and Tulsa). OU is in the heart of Norman, Oklahoma. The city of Norman, a vibrant community, is consistently a contender on “best place to live” rankings with outstanding schools, amenities, a low cost of living, small town charm, and a variety of recreational opportunities. Norman is located just 20 miles south of Oklahoma City, the capital and economic hub of the state of Oklahoma. The Oklahoma City Metroplex, including Norman and several other suburban cities, is home to about 1.5 million residents, offering all the amenities of a major, modern metropolitan community, including rich cultural diversity and heritage, an abundance of the arts, superb dining and nightlife, major sporting and concert events, family entertainment, recreational adventure activities, and much more.

The Provost’s Office oversees curricular standards and academic policies; faculty recruitment and development; institutional planning and budgeting; and resource and enrollment management. The Office works closely with institutional leaders, academic support units, faculty, and staff to promote excellence and support the academic experience of students.

The Senior Vice President and Provost must be visionary, politically astute, and committed to public service and diversity, equity, and inclusion necessary to advance the university and inspire its multiple constituencies. The ideal candidate will possess proven experience as an innovative, collaborative, and accomplished leader with a successful record of advancing complex organizations or institutions. Candidates should have a distinguished record of achievement and professional credentials consistent with appointment at the rank of full professor.
