Just 75 miles north of New York City, in Poughkeepsie, NY, the College invites applications for a Director of Health Services. We seek an accomplished, collaborative, and knowledgeable physician to serve in this position. This is an exciting opportunity for a board-certified physician with strong supervisory and managerial skills to partner with a talented team of Nurse Practitioners, Registered Nurses, Medical Assistants, Nutritionist, and an Administrative Coordinator to help provide and advance best practices, quality assurance, and community outreach to a diverse student community.

 Qualifications:

The successful candidate will be a board-certified MD/DO from an accredited medical school with a current license to practice medicine in New York. They will have five (5) or more years of supervisory/managerial experience including the development and direction of health-related programs and services and responsibility for the quality of medical practice, outreach, and vendor relationships.  Three to five years of clinical experience in a hospital, clinic, college, or private practice providing evidence-based, quality healthcare for patients with acute, episodic illnesses/injuries as well as chronic conditions is required, as is at least two years of experience providing direct supervision of clinical and administrative areas.

Candidate must also demonstrate: knowledge and experience in crisis management and emergency preparedness procedures; familiarity with current national issues, trends, best practices, and standards in primary health care, health, college health, sports medicine, and health insurance; experience with electronic medical records systems (as client lead, super user and/or clinical lead); knowledge of HIPAA, FERPA and other legal requirements and standards.  Ideal candidates will have strong administrative supervisory and managerial skills and experience working within a higher education setting, treating young adults or adolescents. Ability to communicate orally and in writing with multiple constituents including parents, administrators, and faculty is essential. Demonstrated clinical outreach, consultation, and crisis intervention skills are essential. Knowledge of and direct experience with medical specialists in the community and the Department of Health is preferred, Familiarity/experience with Telemedicine is also preferred as is the ability to network and connect with the local and regional medical community.

Essential Functions:

The Director of Health Services (DHS) is responsible for the strategic leadership, management, supervision, and provision of Health Services for approximately 5,000 students on the Marist College main campus providing effective management, supervision, clinical skill, and day-to-day administration of a talented, multidisciplinary team. In addition to providing clinical support, the DHS oversees the screening of medical records of all incoming students, ensuring compliance with immunizations, health insurance, and state and federal regulations. The individual works regularly with a variety of campus partners as well as area physicians, hospitals, and clinics; provides training and educational outreach to students and staff; coordinates with county, state, and federal officials in response to health crises or other medical concerns in the local community; consults with International Programs staff regarding medical issues with students abroad; serves on campus-wide and student life committees, and attends and participates in local and regional health conferences. 

This position is part of the medical team which is responsible for coordinating the College’s response to the pandemic, including managing in-house antigen testing and assisting with contact tracing response. In addition is a key member of the team reviewing plans to safely engage in athletics, music and theater productions etc.  Also plays a key role as liaison to the DOH.
