 Description:

The Department of Biochemistry in the Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time tenure stream appointment in the area of Eukaryotic Cell Biology.  The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, with an expected start date of April 1, 2021.  

We seek a scientist applying advanced microscopy techniques to the study of phase separations in human neuronal cells, with applications to neurodegenerative diseases. The successful candidate must have experience working with neuronal stem cell lines and a documented record of outstanding, independent, as well as collaborative research. 

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Genetics and Molecular Biology, postdoctoral research experience, a strong background in cell biology and a demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching. We seek candidates whose research and teaching interests complement and strengthen our existing departmental strengths. Evidence of excellence in research is required and can be demonstrated through the submitted research statement, publications in top journals, presentations at significant conferences, competitive scholarships and awards, and  a strong track record securing research funding. They must also have strong endorsements from referees of international standing.  The candidate will be expected to mount an original, innovative and independently-funded research program that is internationally competitive.  

Candidates must also demonstrate excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching. Evidence of excellent teaching will be demonstrated through the teaching dossier submitted, a personal a teaching statement, sample course materials, and teaching evaluations, as well as strong letters of reference that specifically address teaching skill.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The Department of Biochemistry is one of the premier academic life sciences departments in North America, with 67 full-time faculty members and more than 250 graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. The University of Toronto has one of the most concentrated Biomedical Research communities in the world, including 10 fully-affiliated academic hospitals and research institutes. This community attracts greater than $800M in annual research funding.
